My computer is older and doesn't have a built in camera so I'd have to go buy one.

I just use my free minutes to call friends/family. Hearing their voice is enough for me.

That's great you reconnected w/ your friend.

I've only used Skype a couple of times and haven't had good luck. Seems like either we can't see each other, or have to use the cell phone to hear one another.

BUT, tonight was different! I was contacted by a long-lost friend in Australia. Haven't talked to him in 20+ years, and lost his address after he moved about 8 years ago. So good to hear his Ozzie voice once again. He still makes me laugh.

I was sitting here in my PJs, no makeup, wearing my funny reading glasses, etc. and assumed that the camera still didn't work. Surprise! I had to hurry and turn it to the wall!

Anybody else use Skype?
I use it to call my son who is in South Korea. Inexpensive (.02 cents a minute) and easy. I can talk with or without the camera (which you have to have and set up the program) and I recommend using Skype. It's a great way to communicare anywhere and it's cheap.

I don't have any long distance on my phone. Why would I want to pay all that money? You can get phone cards at Sam's or Costco and program them into your phone. You can purchase as many minutes as suits you. It is much cheaper than using a regular long distance phone service.

By the way Twink...do you mean 'Aussie' or 'Ozzie'?

I used to get little pop up boxes (instant messages I believe they are called). The first time I saw the little box, someone said "hi"!! so naturally, being a friendly person, I said Hi back.

Well, in two seconds he was asking to meet me and he wanted to "GET TO KNOW ME BETTER". I had no idea what the heck was going on.

I said "who are you, and how did you get my email address?" He went away. Then another person tried to contact me. I was given the option to accept or block. I started blocking everything.

I don't know why but I never got another instant message. This had to be over 5 years ago. For some reason, I don't like instant messaging. I have a cell phone but it's just for emergencies. I only use it for the Access-a-ride. There's no one I need to call and there's no family to speak of so for me the cell phone doesn't come into play unless it's to call Access-a-ride and make sure my ride is on the way.

But I gather if I was in my 20's, I'd probably have an I-PHONE.

Now THAT's something I would love because I use my IPOD all the time. Imagine being able to go on the internet, make phone calls and listen to music, all in one gadget. Sweeeeeet!!!
