Earl - Have you looked into the leasing option for the solar panels? I have always watched "Living with Ed" about Ed Begley, Jr. and he always shows really cool ways to be environmentally conscious.

They did a show that profiled this option. Here is a link to info on that episode:

Curious - There are smaller wind turbines that one can put on their roof. Ed Begley Jr. had one installed on his house in Studio City, CA.

I once saw how Ed Begley lives. This LIVES Green. I mean, he does composting and everything.

And he rides a bike everywhere.

Lots of GREEN going on in his house!!!

They put up some windmills in Ohio and are doing studies on adding more. There are concerns for our migrating bird population though, and it costs quite a lot just to figure where the birds will be least affected and where the windmills will still be efficient.

So far that's the snag. Where there is good wind, there are too many birds.

And it's unlikely any power company could spend that kind of money - or have room for, even - for solar panels for each customer.
