yes, very upsetting...

But you know....what this feels like?

It seems to be a girl who did this... c**t...is what girls call each other.

By threatening you... this person is trying to deflect attention
away from themselves. So you will be worried and look to
protecting yourself rather than try to figure out who stole
the package.

Was the package marked Bath Works? That would be hint that a young girl may have taken it.
Also the kitty drawing and 666 is rather juvenile.

Just my impressions.

Mrs. D.

I have no idea how the package was marked because I never got it. The mailman obviously put it at another address (but I've received stuff from Bath and Body Works and yes, you can tell that it's from them).

The police never came. It's now 6:30 p.m. I just called my local precinct and there WAS NOTHING IN THEIR COMPUTER THAT ANYONE FROM MY HOUSE CALLED THEM.

So I said "what do we do now?" She said: "Don't worry, let me see if there's a sector (I have no idea what she said, she said it so fast). Then she came back on and said: "I'm sending someone out, they will be there this evening".

All day, I sat on the porch and Alan comes out and orders me back in the house and says "lock the door". I said 'cmon, this is an idiot here who probably found the empty box in front of their house, got mad because they thought I was littering and decided to scare me". Everybody I've told this to has the same conclusion. But they all agree you have to report this.

I'll ask the cops about the Post Office thing. Can't do it tomorrow. Going to Cornell and Alan's got HIS appointments.

We can do this on Saturday.

Till then, I have to live my life. I AM going to be carrying pepper spray from now on.

And I completely agree that I think this is a female doing this. And she's young.

Just like those stupid jerks who put laxatives in the cake.

Talk about stupid juvenile behavior.

Thankfully (I have two cops who live next door to me). I spoke to their daughter and she said "Oh, I'll call my mother, and I said "please don't bother your mother, the cops are going to come". She called her mother anyway.

So I believe I DO have my back covered.

I couldn't eat all day today. My sugar is perfect (because who can eat with all this stress).

I'm going to have my fish now. I won't enjoy this at all.

Reminds me when my ex-boyfriend came after me 35 years ago and I had to move. I couldn't eat then either. Lost a lot of weight back in that day.

Okay, this was an interesting evening.

The police showed up. We explained to them what happened. The guys looked at the letter and I saw that they immediately thought it was some idiot female just writing a letter.

Alan starts getting excited saying "I don't like the language of this letter, this person is out to get us, etc. etc. "and they used the sign of the devil (666)".

I said 'you'll have to forgive my husband, he's very upset over this".

The cops sat down at my living room table, and start filling out paperwork. WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, their walkie talkies start buzzing and we hear 211 IN PROGRESS!!

They jump up, and shout "We'll be back", and they left all the paperwork on my table and they went off to chase the bad guys".

They came back in 40 minutes, wrote whatever they wrote. I asked them "what is it called, what this person did"? and they said "AGGRAVATED HARRASSMENT".

I am to call the precinct tomorrow and get a complaint number.

They didn't take any of the bagged evidence with them. I'll take it to the Postal Authorities on Saturday. What they will do, I have no clue.

I knew the cops wouldn't do anything. It's no big thing to them.

But to a pair of 60 year olds, it's quite SOMETHING, believe me.

But all my neighbors are aware and we all look out for each other.

So that's the story, the whole kit and kaboodle!!!

Wow Melody, I'm sorry you have to deal with something like this. I do hope it is some dumb female who wrote that note and that nothing will come of it. But don't leave your house without the pepper spray you said you'll carry!

Melody

I hear you. The problem with some cops is they see so much violence, it's hard for them to muster the compassion for someone who's only been threatened. They also know they can't do much to prevent anything from happening. I hope the postal inspectors will be able to help.

Still, it's good this is all getting on record. Hopefully, it was just some bored teenager who won't follow-up on the threat. I agree with you there seems to be something wrong with the mindset of kids nowadays - no compassion or tolerance for others.

I'm glad to know you live in a neighborhood that watches out for each other. Carrying mace is a good idea too. I hope and pray you'll remain safe. Stay alert, but please don't allow this to eat at you.

I was at a Bull's game one freezing cold winter's night. We came out to find my passenger side window busted out. I didn't have anything of value in my car (not even a stereo, lol), so they took the carton of cigarettes I had stashed in the back.

We drove around the corner to the police station and reported the crime. The cop wasn't impressed with my broken window story because the car was insured and no one was hurt. When I reported the stolen cigarettes, he almost laughed in my face. I'm sure he was thinking "yeah, we'll get right on that." :p It was a very cold ride home.

I just came back from the Post Office.

I was sent to a window all the way at the other end of the Post Office, The manager came to the window. I presented him with all the evidence as I told my story. He read the letter with interest. His opinion??

"One of your neighbors did this!!" I said "I know, I'm not stupid, but they thew the box on someone else's property, and THEY wrote me this letter"

He said "let me see the envelope", I had it in another zip lock bag. He looked at it though the bag and said "But there's no return address, do you know who sent you this?"

DUH!!!!!!!!

I looked at him and said: "How on earth would I know??"

He said: 'then what do you want US to do??"

I looked at him again. I just stood there and said quietly: "Do you mean to tell me that anyone can send a threatening letter through the US mails and you can't do anything about it??"

He then said in a loud voice. "Of course we can't do anything about it, I could shoot you and if no one knew it was me, how can anyone do anything about it??"

Then he must have noticed the expression on my face and he wrote down the phone number for the Postal Inspector. He then said: 'but don't expect them to do anything, YOU DON'T HAVE A RETURN ADDRESS, AND YOU DON'T KNOW WHO SENT THIS TO YOU".

UPDATE UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just went to the link with the Postal Inspectors. I put in my zip code, and I got a phone number. I called the number, told my story, they put me on hold. Then she came back and said:

"I'm so sorry, you have to call the FBI".

I said: 'I HAVE TO DO WHAT"!!!!

She said "They are the ones who handle threats through the mail".

I said "Thank you".

Okay, people, comments please. Do you think I should do this, and what do you think the FBI is going to do for poor little me???

well....

you could sit on this a few days, observe your neighbors,

and if you finally suspect someone... I'd get a small gift and give it to the suspect and see the reaction!

Sometimes a "shame gift" is more powerful than any
authority figure.

I'd watch your mail delivery for a while...stake it out.
see who is looking at YOUR STUFF.

Petty people do things like this out of envy, or resentment.
A poor girl with nothing nice, could be very resentful of what others have.

But at this point I would not worry. And you ARE getting a replacement.

And I would NOT talk about this around your apartment. Keep it close to your vest, to see if anyone gets curious, etc.
