I got a call recently from someone claiming to be with the Police Benevolent Society. The number he was calling from did not show up on my called ID. Just said "private number".

I grilled him with questions and he gave me some phony answers.

I finally got tired of abusing this poor man and told him that my son is a police officer with our county department and that his explanations just did not sound accurate.

Guess what - he hung up on me!!

Lightbulb we have found

The Do Not Call list quite effective. It has reduced our
nuisance calls about 90%.

And we have had some nasty police solicitations too..One, a woman, was the most aggressive thing I've ever encountered.
I hung up on HER!

We screen our calls now. Have caller ID and if we miss
getting to the phone before the recorder takes over, our friends know to leave a message.

Right now the worst offenders are the political parties. During the primaries it was pretty bad.

One thing I do sometimes if I am peeved enough is to
answer the phone, and when I see it is a solicitation, I
set the phone down on the counter and walk away. That way THEY end up paying more for the call, and it ties THEM up reduces their output.

But in general, the calls are much less. I will be glad when the election is over.

I don't have caller ID, and have not placed my tele. number (land line or cell) on the no-call lists. What I do have is unlisted numbers and rarely do I receive any solitication-type or tele-marketing calls .

I love the ones where they say "CONGRATULATIONS!" you were selected as a winner in our contest. I get really excited and say WOW, I can't believe it!!!

Then I hang up ...Sue

I am so disgusted with the elite ruling class in all the political parties I can't stand it. I have not watched the alphabet news networks for years.

Hard to know what is the worst thing in the USA now days, the politicians or their puppets in the media.

They pass a law to protect us from abusive callers, but they are the worst. Computers have made it even worse. We get calls from the political parties too. The computer recordings are the worst. If you notice.... when you hang up and go back to make a call a few seconds later, the line is still "tied up". Hope I am not dying of my respiratory disease that night. I couldn't call 911 on that line.

Sorry, just ranting a little. Maybe if we all gave up on our home phones, the phone company lobbyist might get a bill past so the ruling elite in D.C. would leave us alone.

WHY SHOULD YOU AND I PAY OUR MONEY TO BE IRRITATED? Think about that one.

We are about ready to dump our home phones and go with cell phones only. Save some money there.
