Default Finally!!!!!

Don't know how to put this elegantly, so I'll just blurt it out!!!

I WENT TO THE BATHROOM.

Good Grief.

I had been having some (what's a polite word for irregularity??).

Oh, there's no polite word.

Since June, when stress hit me big time..well, it affected how I went to the bathroom.

Drove me nuts.

I had never had a problem. I would go to Dunkin, I'd drink some coffee, I'd go home, I'D GO!!!!!

Since then, I've had to resort to other measures to HELP me go.

Some days it was 4 days, one time it was 5 days.

So I bought the Benefiber. Took it wrong initially. Took it once a day.

Read the bottle. It said two tsps 3 times a day.

I mixed it with Crystal Lite Orange Drink, and finally took it the correct way.

I also took stool softners.

Now during all this time, I had no pain, no grumbling, (lots of flatulence, though).

But no actual discomfort. I also (for two weeks) was not eating normally, because I under-dosed my Lantus because I could not read the syring and gave myself 16 units instead of 18 units).

When I realized THAT was was my sugar was 300 one afternoon, I made sure I did the syringe right but I also literally ate half of what I was eating.

All that helped to bring my sugar down to normal, which it now is. I don't get the dips when I don't eat, so I gather I'm lucky in that department.

And Cornell knows I don't eat after 7 and my body reacts just fine. Been doing this for well over 2 years.

But, being a diabetic I don't eat fruit which is fiber.

So thankfully, (and I thought I WOULD NEVER GO AGAIN), I did go this morning. Feel like a million dollars. You know the feeling.

I had spoken to Alan's nurse a few days ago and she explained about the colon and digestive system, and that diabetics have a little slower digestive system that the normal population. I've been diabetic for 20 years so I thought 'oh, no, this is because I'm diabetic??"

But she explained that I have to drink lots of fluids, and take my benefiber, and eat my veggies (which I do). She said 'your digestive system will kick in, now go and eat your Probiotic yogurt". Which I did.

I also thought to myself "Oh, I'll eat my yogurt and I'll go to the bathroom tonight".

Not gonna happen.

I said 'what is all these 10 days challenges"??

All bran (take the 10 day challenge).

Activia (with Jamie Lee Curtis). She says: "Eat Activia, you'll get things moving".

But they don't tell you that you won't move the next day.

The nurse explains that the body has to be in balance and it all has to work in sync.

Well, obviously I've been out of sync.

Hopefully, I'll be syncing up soon.

So here's to HAPPY SYNCING for all of us.

lol

Thank you soooo much.

I actually went to the Beauty Parlor to get my summer hair cut.

I was smiling and my hair dresser said "uh oh, you're usually smiling, but today you're SMILING!!! I had to laugh.

It's amazing what you want to do when you are able to GO!!!

I then came home, and Alan was waking up. I jumped into bed and said 'HELLO DARLING".

He burst out laughing and said "What's going on?" and I said 'I WENT TO THE BATHROOM".

He burst out laughing again because he goes twice a day because he eats fruit and popcorn all night long.

A far cry from 6 years ago when he was on the Fentanyl patch and he went once a week.

Good Lord.

Anyway, when I came home "guess what happened".

I never was so happy to see a Toilet Bowl in all my life.

I mean, you have to appreciate when everything works.

My beautician was telling me 'Melody I want to eat fruit all night long, bowls of fruit". I said 'YOU CAN'T EAT BOWLS OF FRUIT, YOU ARE A DIABETIC".

She then said to me "aren't you mad that you can't eat what your husband eats??"

I looked at her and said:

"Are you kidding, I just went to the bathroom, I don't care WHAT he can eat". "I'm just happy I went".

The whole place started laughing.

So here's to N'Syncing to all of you.

I'm curious about something. After going to the bathroom today (normal stools, not loose or anything), I had a salad at 1:30 p.m.

So I had breakfast at 8:30 am. and a salad for lunch (lettuce, tomatoes, button mushrooms), with some extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, and a dash of salt and pepper.

Nothing after that until my dinner. I usually eat at 6 but sometimes it might be 7.

Well, I felt funny at 5:30 p.m. I said 'take your sugar". I took my sugar. It was 65.

THIS NEVER HAPPENS. NEVER.

I don't think I drank a lot of water from 1:30 p.m. till 5:30 p.m.

It was over 90 degrees outside and there is no air conditioning in my house (only the bedroom), and I was in the kitchen.

Now could my sugar reading have gone low because I went to the bathroom (a lot), didn't drink lots of fluid in the heat. I immediately put a half slice of pita bread in my mouth and drank some Crystal Light (with splenda), and felt just fine in a few moments.

I have rarely had this happen to me. I have lost more weight. I am now only on 19 units of Lantus (down from 46 with two metformins) from 4 years ago.

Two weeks ago, Cornell put me down from 22 of the Lantus to 18, but I screwed up the syringes and have been giving myself 19 and got my sugar down to practically normal readings.

But then at 5:30 pm. I see 65. Since this hasn't happened in YEARS, I can only assume, I didn't have enough fluids in me.

Comments welcome

Mel

Hey Twinks.

Know what I did today after I came home after the beauty parlor and did my thing again?? I went to get a pedicure.

Guess what?? They painted some designs on my big toes. I have never did this in my entire life. I am now walking around with blue and pink flowers on two of my toes.

I came home and showed them to Alan. You should have seen the look on his face.

I think HE THINKS I've lost my mind.

He said "but they only painted two toes??" I said 'they polish all the toes but they put a design on the two big toes". He looks at me and says: "Why on earth would you do that??"

Forget about it. MEN!!!!!

Well, good. I'm glad to hear that Benefiber doesn't have sugar.

I would not make a very good diabetic as I love my fruit and hate the taste of meat. I can tolerate chicken some times. I love, love, love salmon and turkey.

I don't like to eat much in the heat either so you are not alone on that one. 90 degrees and no a/c would kill me! Yuck! No wonder you're not that hungry.

Drink up, my Brooklyn friend.

Congratulations Melody! I too am glad that you are N'Sync.

As for the blood sugar reading I am not too sure. However, what did you have for breakfast? I hope something with some protein. If not, could that have been the reason? Again, I'm not too sure as I am at the other end, low blood sugar, and have to eat more frequently than 3 times a day and make sure that I get that protein in at all meals.

Would that be the same for diabetics as well? Not too sure but please be careful.

Also, how much (if any) sugar is in the Benefiber? Some of those do have sugar in them so please check the label.

Despite the feeling funny around 5:30. I am glad you were able to finally get the plumbing flowing.

EDIT: I pulled out my bottle of Metamucil and Fiber Choice. The Metamucil has 9 g of sugar in the form of sucrose. Fiber Choice has 7 g of sugar in the form of dextrose.

Benefiber has no sugar. First thing I checked when I bought it.

This morning I went to Dunkin Donuts and had a Whole Wheat Bagel with light cream cheese. And my usual coffee.

Some days I have an english muffin with an egg on it.

I don't eat a lot anymore. Nothing even close to what my husband eats.

I don't get that hungry in the hot weather. I do have to remember to rehydrate though. Every night at dinner I have a piece of fish, and some veggies, and of course my salad.

I don't eat any red meat (not for over 15 years). Don't miss it.

I don't like turkey burgers. I don't eat pasta. I don't eat anything white. You would think I'd weigh 100 lbs but no sireeee, not this girl. It takes me a long time to lose weight. I have about 35 more lbs to go, but it's no biggee.

I just eat what I eat, the people at Cornell are happy with my weight loss and if you think about it I used to be on WAY more diabetic meds than I am now on.

I just don't like putting a lot of food in my body when the weather is this hot. But I know I have to eat. So I eat light. At least I think I'm eating light.

For lunch sometimes, I'll have some grilled chicken on a bed of greens with small cherry tomatoes. I love this. Today, I forgot to put the grilled chicken on it.

Can you imagine?? I used to weigh 300 lbs and today I forgot to add the grilled chicken.

I'd probably forget my head if it wasn't attached to my body.

I would love to be a vegan, but I don't think diabetics are good at being vegans. I think we need more protein from the fish or chicken..

I'd do it in a heartbeat if someone would say. "yeah, Mel, you don't have to eat any chicken or fish anymore, just stick to veggies."

But I know I can't do that. We need protein.

Hi. It is now Tuesday, 11:00a.m.

I went to Dunkin at 9:45 a.m. for breakfast.

Never thought I would be lucky enough to go "again" this morning. I take it as I get it.

But I did drink my benefiber as directed yesterday. And I took my stool softner last night. The nurse said to take one in the morning and one at night. And my friend who was just in the hospital said "that's what they made me do too".

Now I know lots of people who take 2 stool softners before they go to bed. I told this to the nurse. She said: ''No, do the benefiber thing, and take one stool softner in the a.m. and one in the p.m.".

Well, I got home from Dunkin at 10:30, and my body was telling me to "go".

I had no idea if I would simply "go", like Dr. Oz, says we are supposed to "go".

He says: "You are not supposed to have a hard time, you are just supposed to sit down and it should naturally come out of you".

Well, because this has not been the case for me for some time, one gets to thinking, and one gets a bit afraid because one does not know if they are goig to be able to sit and "go", nice and easy.

So I tried and I knew immediately it was NOT going to be like Dr. Oz said.

But I said to myself:

"Melody, go and do what you had been doing up until June.

Up until I had this problem, each morning, after I "went", and I still had the urge but had a bit of diffculty (and I have posted this on another thread), this is what I used to do.

I would go into the computer room, sit on the computer chair (which has this Shiatsu pad). I used to turn it on and keep the rollers kneading my lower back.

100% of the time, within 5 or so minutes, it would stimulate my lower system and I would then 'GO" finish up whatever I had to finish up.

It worked like a charm. Up until June.

That's when I had all the stress and NOTHING worked.

But since I DID GO YESTERDAY, I said "hey give it a shot".

So 15 minutes ago, (because I had not gone yet this morning, and I knew I HAD TO GO, I simply sat in the computer chair, let the rollers knead my lower back, and BINGO, in 5 minutes, I jumped up and ran to the bathroom.

I WENT....with no problem.

So anyone out there who is thinking of buying one of those massage rolling things that you put on your chairs, (or if you already have one, and haven't thought about OTHER USES FOR IT), well, I am hereby officially naming my Shiatsu Massager....

THE CONSTIPATION RELIEF MAT!!!

lol
God Bless this thing.!!

Just wanted to share.
