Nope, not for corn. It's job is very specific, though.
As long as the teacher wasn't "too friendly," I can attest that it helps being teacher's pet. If not for that man, I woulda been suspended more than once - for some lame stuff. Lesson learned: Helps to be a suck up.

Wow, Bobbi and Frank -- you're both thinking leather. Nope, it is not a heavy-duty tool. Too wimpy for that.
