Thanks Kicker....although I never got drooled on or had to change a diaper...what I do remember is alot of smiles and hugs!

I vividly remember a bad moment - an ED parent (little EDs seem to come from ED parents) yanked his daughter (a sister of our student) to the ground by her hair. Another teacher and I watched in horror. With our vice-principal's support, he was confronted. Like any bully/coward he folded when faced with grownups. Poor children.

Diaper changing, drooling and toileting may be involved. There are Tournaments of Champions, for Emotionally Disturbed. Often children could not participate as their guardians couldn't or wouldn't drive them, so I'd pick up and fill my car. There were good moments and bad from what parents came and the children who recognized they weren't first, medal or not. Working with these kids does not involve any special skills, just being able to not react to verbal abuse as a result of child's inability to deal with situations or ability to get you hands dirty. Hard? Yes. Rewarding? YES. Be pro-active, not passive. Shoot, just sit in the stands and cheer, buy what is sold if it is organization generated. Support comes in many forms. Can't go? Send some money to somewhere. Well yeah, I was a Special Ed Teacher and sound it!! We all have different causes.

We are looking for volunteers for the February Games in all areas. The funding has been dismal, well sort of what is needed.

I would also like to add there are opportunities for the Paralympic Games  Here's a link to Sports and Spokes magazine outlining their calendar: http://www.pvamagazines.com/sns/calendar/

I have been watching the Olympics online for the entire session, and to make matters worse, two of my companies are big sponsors: GE and Microsoft.

I didn't think I'd be watching much of it -no real reason, just not one to watch sports on tv - unless it's a horse race LOL.

But the Olympic bug has bit me - Haven't caught any Equestrian events yet on tv but I see you can stream videos of them at the NBC/Olympics area of the website.

Hi.

I haven't watched any of the events. I just can't get over when that big ball came from underneath with all the people "walking" around the planet earth. Never saw such a display in all my life.

and when that guy flew up in the air and flew around the stadium (like he was walking on air), well I wanted Alan to come over to the computer and see.

He refused. He said "I heard that they don't allow bald people to drive taxi cabs during the olympics." I said "that's the stupidest thing I ever heard"

He said 'well, they said so on television"

I am now trying to verify his story.

Good Lord. What next?

But I must say, that opening ceremony with the pageantry, the fireworks (oh my god, those fireworks), and those people beating on the drums and creating all those effects WITHOUT COMPUTER HELP, well, it was jaw dropping.

Now I have to go and try to prove to him that bald people can drive taxicabs.

Mel

OH MY GOD, HE'S RIGHT!!! Just found this.
