Question Looking for a laptop...oh but which one?

I promised myself when I got my back pay from SSDI, one thing I was getting before anybody else got anything...a laptop! I can't decide...Dell, Compaq...

Any suggestions? I like the colors Dell comes in...I like Compaq...I've had two and they worked really well with no problems...my desktop is a Compaq and has been a very good one...its over 10 years old and still working.

I just can't seem to decide...

Please...suggestions...get me outta this!!!

I saw some Toshiba laptops advertised cheap for back to school. $649 or so with 3gb ram, pentium dual processor, vista home premium, etc... I think HP's are rated really well nowadays too. I've had Dells for the past ten years or so and haven't had any problems with them to speak of.

Or you could get a MAC but it would cost quite a bit more I think.

With Windows Vista, you'll likely need to get a new printer, etc... It doesn't work well with many older peripherals.

I have had the Dell, HP, Sony and Toshiba. The last one I bought was an Acer which is up and coming. I LOVE IT!!!!!!! It's a great laptop if your looking for a laptop and the cost is attractive. Circuit City, Best Buy and Walmart sell them.

Shhhhh, if Cindy see's this thread she'll have a conniption that we aren't saying buy a Mac. lol

My DH bought 3 Dells (For myself & our 2 kids (when 19 & 21)). But maybe the price is the important thing. However, I bet this one does more than I need. I just go on the internet.
My kids use it for more than I do & kids today know more about how to do things with computers...too bad we didn't have any computer classes in school.

I have several Dells, but never again. I'm pretty unhappy with their support. If anything goes wrong down the line, it is impossible to talk to someone you can even understand.

Can you tell I just had a bad experience?

if you are not looking for a powerhorse laptop.

I would highly recommend this one. I've recommended it to most of my clients wanting new laptops and it's gotten great reviews...

HP laptop

computer companies are always going to try to get better to get competitive. So what is great this year as a company might not be great as a company next year...

good luck!

Thanks guys...HP bought out compaq a few years back which is what I have now. I've had two laptops that were Compaq, no problems with them other than they were used and I paid less than 50 bucks for both of them.

I'm giving my desktop to the DH...so I want a laptop that is high powered, I do a lot of photo programs. I will check out the suggestions...thanks again.
I will have to order online I imagine...we live in the middle of nowhere and ain't nothing here. lol

Savannah would be the closest place to a Best Buy...about an hour and half away.

We bought ours online Momma. Mine came from Walmart and Jim's fancy dancy Acer came from Circuit City. He has a camera and lots of storage. Mine doesn't have the camera but does have a good amount of storage. I use Photoshop and Illustrator and never freeze up.

momma I think the biggest stumbling block you will encounter is the new vista. One thing vista runs better with two megs or more of memory, especially if you are into multi functioning, and with the vista I have heard a lot say they don't like it cause they cant install some of their older programs with it

and as Holly said dell never again cause of customer service, same here

The HP's are nice as are the Toshiba, happy shopping
