Oh my gosh, Kay~ Those pics are scary! Please stay safe.
|
thanks, Missy Tinkerbell !! We are safe and sound, the highway has reopened, and my animals all have feed.
the "flood event" is now moving slowly downstream, and I worry about all the people along the Belize River, all the way to the coast... this is gonna be scary over the next two days (that's how long the river takes to get to the Caribbean Sea) In Bullet Tree and Calla Creek, families lost all their homes, crops and livestock, this is a huge disaster... :( at least it's finally stopped raining. |

or tell them my husband (or big brother) has the change, and will be coming out right behind me... if they insist, I offer them a can or two of beans... if they're really hungry, they'll take it. if they're drug addicts, they will usually just say something rude and leave in a huff. but people should be expecting more of this (being accosted by beggars), because of the present state of the economy, and the foreclosure mess: "We saw family homelessness began to increase last winter," says Sally Erickson, Portland's homeless program manager. "There's definitely a spike in the last six months." The number of requests for emergency shelter doubled from fiscal year 2007 to fiscal 2008, which ended in June. Darlene Newsom, who runs United Methodist Outreach Ministries' New Day Centers, which provide shelter programs for families in Phoenix, says the number of requests is "alarming." http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-10-2 what my husband does is offer to take them shopping, or buy medicine, whatever it is their "story" is about... they almost always decline. if all they want is cash, then he feels it's just for drugs or alcohol... but only $2 bucks? that's nothing to worry about, unless the person makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, and in that case, your son is right, just go right back into the store, and ask for an ESCORT to your vehicle. (hugs for Kelly) |
Vonn, Love the quilts!
Momma, so glad he's ok even if the truck isn't. Frank and Deb, still praying for ya. Kay, sorry to hear the effects of the flooding will be so far reaching there. Prayers going out. ~~~~~~~~ Not quite sure why I'm still up. Since around 9, just been restless. Can't sit still for too long. Been doing some little stuff here and there. Kinda hard to explain. Hope everyone has a good night. |
Holy Smokes! Flooding villages, crispy chevys, coding Franks.
What the heck is going on around here? Cut it out and get back to 'looking so good!' |
okay, Jane...
I'm looking so good, in fact, I look GREAT !! I got a snarky comment from a fellow expat (who's been here 30 yrs) we went down to the village store to get some stuff at the height of the flood... first, our friend looked at my husband, in cotton shorts, and flip flops, and said he'd come to wade through the flood "in proper Belizean style." he gazed at my thick rubber boots, with pants stuffed in, and long sleeves and said that I was "dressed like an American!" ha ha ha! but better safe than sorry, I mean geez, that water might be contaminated... never mind Kelly's nervousness about snakes swimming around !! anyway, after that, he mentioned, that aside from looking Americanish, I also was looking GREAT!! :D:cool::D hey Finny? WAKE UP !! so, didja get to SLEEP yet? :D:p:D *sorry, I'm channeling Frank's cellmate at the asylum there* |

I love it!! You're so talented.....I wish I had taken the time to let my mother teach me how to sew. I'll always regret not doing that. I have two quilts she made and they mean the world to me. |
