Default Come on up on the porch...

Thursday night some of the family went to a small place called the Whale's Tail to chow down on some sea food. The owner has been a friend of mine for many years, her son died a few weeks before my first marriage and would have been best man at our wedding. Her only daughter died nine years ago the 21st of this month from cancer...her husband over 25 yrs. Just a lil information, not really important, it just lets you know more about the family.

When we first got there, I got a small surprise, my DD and her friend and family were there. I hugged them all , sat down, ordered up my vittles. After stuffed our tummies, my sister and BIL left and I went back to see Ms Agnes...her real name. That llil sweet lady looks the same as she did when I first met her over 30 yrs ago. She asked me to sit and visit, I did...she noticed I was having trouble walking so I had to tell her about the MS. We visited for about an hour or so since it was a Thursday night and not many people were there. She still works in the kitchen peeling, deveining, battering shrimp or whatever she can.

When I got ready to leave she said something to me that really touched my heart and made me think. We exchanged the usual pleasantries, come visit, let's get together, etc. She told me, "You don't know what this time has meant to me. I am so glad you came back to see me. What happened between you and VW made no difference how I feel about you. You know Pearl (XMIL)always loved you like you were hers and I feel the same."

What she didn't realize that the visit meant just as much to me. I was just as glad to see her. I grew up with people that were much older than I. I had friends my age also but I seemed to have many that were older because of family being older. This visit made me realize, along with losing my friend last week, that our days are truly numbered.

We hustle and bustle that we don't have time for family let alone friends, or either we feel like the outhouse smells or don't have the energy. I would love to spend more time with family and friends even if just to call them on the phone. However, I don't even feel like talking most days...how horrible that is!! Is it any wonder that we lose contact with family and friends, and then we ask why don't they call or come to see us? lol Well duh huh? It don't take a rocket scientist honey! lol

Maybe we need to rethink the schedule...you know one day ain't a whole lot of time when you think about it. One week, have coffee with Jill, next week, Barb, next week, Lulu...spend a couple of hours just sitting and chatting. Think of it another way...your best friend lives less than 5 minutes away...when is the last time you had coffee with her/him, how long have you been friends? I've been friends with mine for 49 years, it takes me less than ten minutes to get to her house, we have never, ever even been mad at each other. What if your friend was gone in an instant...it would be too late to have that cup of coffee, visit or have lunch.

You never know now do you...that visit from you might just be the light in someone's day~might be the light in yours~

If you ever are traveling down yonder on Hwy 1 going south just outside of Lyons, Georgia, past John's Country Junction...before the crossroads look for the small sign for the Whale's Tail and some good ole seafood. Tell Judy Tammy's Momma sent ya and tell Ms Agnes hello from Patricia. If ya go past Pop's General Store...you done gone plum past it, so turn around and go back.

Yep ain't nuthin like good ole cookin and good ole friends...kinda like all the folks that show up on the porch from time to time...

I'm glad she told you your visit was special. She's right, you don't know unless somebody say something.

Let's don't assume people know we give a dang. Let's be sure they do.

Heck, let's all go pester the livin tar outta them until they have no doubts how much we care!

Mama, I lovezz the way you write. That good ole charm. I always feel like I am a guest at your parties because each 'conversation' is truly that. There is food aplenty on the table and always room for one more

You are right. It is a treat to remember another human being and to be remembered. It is wonderful to be told you are special (and you are special) as it is wonderful to tell others that they are special.

Yesterday in Wal-Mart, I saw a childhood friend that I haven't seen in over 20 years...she looks the same. She didn't recognize me until I told her my name...everyone expects long black hair. I have short blonde hair. We talked for about 20 minutes, her mother is now in a nursing home...her mother was my mother's best friend. When my mother was sick...she visited her three or four times a day and when she died it was like part of her died.

I called her when I first moved back three years ago when she was living at home...she told my friend that I called. She works, so she is not able to have her mother live with her. This lady was always laughing and baking, that's how I remember her, she was originally from Louisianna.

My lil Brain is so smart, she is right, if we don't tell people that we really mean it when we say how good it is to see them...how will they know. Have we become a 'polite' society when we say 'good to see you'? Should we not tell those that we see and it truly is good to see them and how much they do mean to us as family and friends?

I believe our lives would be greatly enriched and blessed to do such a small thing for those we care about.

Sandy...go to Ruby's, or tell me where it is and I will try to go in Nov.
OATJ...Thank you and I'm glad you enjoy.

Today, I have(pain day) to make myself go see my friend that is sick...her sister died a little over a week ago and I think she is having more difficulty than she will admit. Today, I will tell her how much I love her what our friendship has meant to me over the years. How through the years we knew we could count on each other no matter which state the other lived.

Momma, it's right off 431/231 in Fayetteville Tennessee. Tell them Linda's daughter sent you. If they don't know Linda (you know newbies) tell them she worked there and is Delia's (The Thrasher's) daughter. lol

I'll take your picture...lol

I did go see my friend today...and saw two or three more today while shopping...they just opened a Big Lots...the only other big center is WalMart...we are such a metropolis. lol

We are staying at Lake Tansi this year...but we travel from one place to another sometimes driving all day until we get tired and then head back to where we are staying. We split the driving between two to three people...my sister will not drive in strange places...such a wimp. lol
