awww...here's a sad one that I just read. We have one of these & she is so friendly & beautiful.

87% of white shepherds die young.

http://dl6.glitter-graphics.net/pub/...glswgoq5i4.jpg this of course isn't a shepherd, but he's cute.

The Japanese liquor, Mam, uses venomous snakes as one of its main ingredients.

Funny, in the US we use mj for medicinal purposes. Yet in Nepal, cow dung is used for medicinal purposes. Go figure.

Did you know that liquid Tide laundry detergent glows under a blacklight?

The jury is still out on this one. No matter its size or thickness, no piece of paper can be folded in half more than 8 times

LOL!!! Normal body temperature for a dog is 101 degrees. My poor little doxie was sick and had 104.5 last week. Don't ask me how the Vet took it.... eek!

Aarcyn 03-03-2009 08:27 PM

I love this thread. I have no facts to contribute except for the interesting fact that I have no facts.

Not so! Mythbusters confirmed it with a gigantic sheet of paper in an airplane hangar. Can't be done. They even used heavy machinery and still, no dice.

*dabbing eyes*

I just love those guys.

Butterflies taste w/their feet! That way they can find a nutricious leaf to lay it's eggs on and later eat as a caterpillar.

So I am watching tv and the Dateline information tab said two septuagenarian women helping the homeless. Jim and I are like whuh? What is a septuagenarian?

The answer? A person whose age is in the seventies.

Well well, learn something new everyday.

Wow! I just learned that corn is NOT a naturally occurring plant! What we know as corn is a completely man-manipulated plant that originated in central Mexico as a grass that grew just a few kernels in each sparsely-distributed plant.

Also, NO corn on the entire planet can grow without human intervention and tending. Every plant has to begin with a fresh seed and if we stopped planting corn seeds today, the entire world would be without corn inside of 3 years.

I know, I had no idea either. I was just watching the show during dinner and it truly surprised me so I had to make sure I put it in here. I love that show!

I saw corn in IA. Then I saw some more corn. After that, they had some corn.

Come back to DeKalb. You'll see corn, and then you'll see soybeans. ;) And after that, you might see some pigs or cows.

AfterMyNap 03-14-2009 09:54 AM

Thanks, Wiz! No.

Here's a freaky sidebar to all that corn jazz, my sissy (who thinks she's Amish ;)) knew all about this!

SandyC 03-14-2009 09:59 AM

Fact or fiction????

Twinkletoes 03-15-2009 12:10 AM

Arches Nat'l Park (here in Utah) has over 2,000 limestone arches!

How come I only live a few hours away, and I've only ever been there once when the kids were young? :o

You burn more calories sleeping than watching TV

A group of rattlesnakes is called a rhumba!

Hope I never see one, lol!

lor 03-25-2009 08:49 PM

Thanks for the site Twink. I haven't been reading this site lately but clicked on 'yours' & found it interesting.
When I read that some tribe in Kenya thinks "10" is bad luck & doesn't use it when counting, I thought of us & 13. Most hotels don't even have a 13th floor. After the 12th floor is the 14th floor.

The tomato is the world's most popular fruit, or is it a vegetable??? Guess it's labeled as a fruit. Can't wait to have the real thing out of our garden this summer. Yummo!

SandyC 03-26-2009 06:53 PM

Facinating fact: I am broke.

lor 03-27-2009 04:16 PM

Where is the only place that the flag flies day and night, is never saluted or ever at half mast???

The Moon! Fascinating? I think so.

Thanks lor, I pretty much classified the tomato as a fruit too, but it really should be a veggie....cuz it's going in my veggie garden. That's my story and I'm stickin to it. *grin*

Did you know that kids grow faster in the spring!?

Thumper2 03-31-2009 07:05 AM

From my Snapple cap :D

Our eyes are always the same size from birth, but our nose and ears never stop growing.

lor 03-31-2009 11:53 AM

The one I just wrote is from my Snapple cap too.

I guess that explains why my 12 year old suddenly can't fit into pants he wore just a few weeks ago!

Thanks for the mentalfloss link Twinkles!

The first one that came up for me: Although better known for its food items, Sara Lee introduced the Wonderbra in 1994.

Now ya have to wonder what was in those Wonderbras!:D
