Typically we always charge new batteries at least 16-24 hours before going out with them. Try that and if it still goes down look at the battery contacts and see if there is any corrosion or if they need to be tightened. If you try all of this and it still doesn't work, you may want to contact the battery dealer and tell them the batteries don't hold a charge. If after getting new batteries you still have the same problem, it could be the battery charger or the charging circuit. That just happened to Jim's chair and the lights went crazy on the charger. One day we went out and the chair went dead. You may also want to check your joystick and follow the wire to the plug in. Make sure it's attached securely.
BUT, it doesn't sound like yours has that problem if the chair wasn't used that much. Good luck! Can you tell we've been where you are? lol Oh and thanks, I now have the Hoveround song in my head. Gonna go go go in my Hoveround, inside, outside, all over town!

The Hoveround song I loved was "You made me love you, I didn't wanna do it, I didn't wanna do it".
Yesterday I thought I had already broken my chair. I tried to move it and the battery charger lights wouldn't do anything but flash. The joystick wouldn't make the chair do anything. I called tech support, though, and my heel had just flipped one of the controls in the front down. You have to----one at a time, not both at once----put the levers in the upright position for it to work alright. My youngest son is an electrician. And his dad is a mechanic. Maybe if anything ever goes wrong the two of them can put their heads together to fix it. I know I sure can't afford repair bills. But this chair was only lightly used for a year so I'm optimistic it's going to do alright. I bought the batteries from SpinLife. Is anyone else familiar with them? I hope they're a reputable company to deal with. |

Just found out something...
Went to get new batteries for my scooter from a store that sells only batteries or "specializes" in batteries. Anywhoooo, the manager said, fully charge and consistently at least once a month or the battery drops below a certain volt and amp and the "normal" chargers (such as the one sold with, i.e., my scooter) won't bring the battery level back up - even though the battery might still be good. He's got mine on a charger; if they charge, he's not going to bill me anything. If not, I'll just get 2 new batteries. Also, some battery "specialists" will make house-calls at no cost other than for parts. I was having probs. getting the batteries out (snug fit in there ) and the next thing was to have him come and do the fix here, only I finally got the little things out.

i charge my scooter once a wk.
and, if you use it it's not a bad idea to plug it in every nite. my tech said at least 2-3 times/wk. better to safe than sorry.

What if I haven't used it? I've heard that batteries will go dead from not being used. How quick will that happen? Like, I don't use it for a few days at a time. Should I still plug it in every night or every day or two or will it be okay?

I bought a Go-chair (Travel chair from Pride, need a chair 24/7 and DH pushes manual chair past stuff at store that interests me!!)a year ago from Spinlife, a year later a new battery as my chair went down too quick at the end. I found Spin-Life good so far but never had problems DH says sometimes batteries can be bad.. Got (finally my "real" chair, Invacare and wow! Sturdy, very strong (I have to be careful now, ripped tile off wall when I wasn't), some of chair covered by Insurance DME , talked price down, paid some (Insurance's company choice but WC division sold right after I placed order, order no longer approved, incompetent WC "expert" rep., insurance company reluctance - took forever to get, 9 months. I'm in 24/7 (well, not sleeping, can use toilet alone) but is really studier than my break down to move into car pieces Go-Chair for travel. The seat on my Invacare better for me, air, gel and foam and built in. Have you ever seen Marc's Wheelchair Kamakaze Blog? Cracks me up. Search Marc, he has link in his signature.

I'd do it in once a week or so. The battery/batteries (life) will last longer if it's not drained before re-charged.
