Julie,
Haven't you met people like that before. I know I have and I feel sorry for then. I would rather have tried and failed rather than to not have tried at all.
Misery loves company, and unfortunately I have met several people named Misery.
This group is great, we vent, laugh, cry and pick ourselves right back up.
I thank God that I found all of you.
hugs
Judy

Faith,
Just proves that women can multi-task better than men (in reverse yet)!
That is just too cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hugs to you,

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind
word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of
caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. --
Leo Buscaglia

Julie,
Since I work in a hospital I see that all to often, especially with our elderly.
All some of them really desire is some comfort care.
That is no longer an option for the nurses since they are so overworked as it is.
I have seen nurses cry because then did not have the time to just sit for a moment with a patient and do just what you said.
A kind word, a touch of the hand, even a reassuring smile can put them at ease.
You are so right, there is unbelievable power in the human touch.
hugs,
Judy

this is a wonderful thread...

I used to have an Emerson quote in my signature years ago:
Quote:

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
I love all of Emerson's thoughts, and those are many!
This one
Quote:

Self-trust is the first secret to success.
I have always believed, that self respect must be in place for us to
respect others.

Thanks for a wonderful thread!

Mrs D, :trampoline:

WOW, I once had that quote printed out years ago and have long since forgotten it. Thank you, thank you for giving it back to me.

I find that is an excellent one to summerize our reason for existance and i absolutely love it!!!!!!!

But you know how the years pass and we move on or forget. I am so happy that you posted that.

Again, thank you.
big hugs to you, :You-Rock:
Judy

I hope everyone posts their favorite(s) here.

I love them all and everyone has a message that speaks to all or especially to certain ones of use.

There are so many profound quotes out there and some of the best were written so long ago.

They must have known that we would need their keen insight in the future.

I hope you are enjoying it and learning from it as much as i am,

Judy :icon_wink:

mrsd, I really got into reading Emerson about 10 years ago. Truly amazing.
I'm busy here trying to find this bookmark I have with one of my all time favourite passages on it. It's not Emerson, I think it's by that person Unknown. lol I'll post it when I either find it or remember it correctly.

"What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not been discovered."
R W Emerson

I also love Ayn Rand...

"The worst guilt is to accept an unearned guilt."
Ayn Rand

Yay, I found it.

'"Through stardust and comets and wind and bad weather, may this star that I hang in the sky stay forever!"

These are the words of The Sandman as he hangs a new star each time a child is born. He positions the star in the sky, where it will stay until the end of time - right above the child's home town.' - Dean Morrissey

~Kate's Star... from the book Ship of Dreams

The little bookmark shows the illustration and has the words on it. It's precious.
