I applied for SSD in October 2007. I never thought I would get it since im only 39, but I got it! I think its possible for anyone with disabilities...but you can't give up. I suffer from degenerative disc disease, bi-polar disorder, and anxiety disorder.

I've just applied for social security in Jan 2010, still haven't heard anything yet. I have spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and anxiety and depression. So I was wondering do you think I have a good chance at being approved.

Well...everyone always told me the thing I had going against me mostly was the fact that I was so young. I informed all my doctors upfront about applying for SSDI, and got all there support. I had surgery for my back. The thing that really surprised me most about my case was I mostly was awarded for mental conditions rather than physical, and I didnt even file for those. I hired ALLSUP through my long term disability and they found the records for my depression, anxiety, and bi-polar, then submitted those with the rest of my case file.

Now...Do I think you have a good case? Every case is different, some are approved at the initial level, and some have to go to the ALJ. It is very important to keep good records, keep your doctor informed of your conditions, hire a lawyer to represent you for the hearing if you actually have to go that far, and don't get frustrated over denials. I think you have as good of a chance as anyone else who is applying. Your symptoms sound a lot like mine. It is important to keep good records of doctors visits, and it helps you to have full support of your doctors. Make sure you have representation at the hearing level, and dont get frustrated about denials. I wish you all the luck!

You must be patient as it can take 3+ years for approval. Obviously it can be shorter. However many people are turned down on the first and second application. You will need a good lawyer. I recommend Allsup. Also talk directly to your doctors about your conditions. If they feel you can work some type of job then you will have to either give up or find another doctor. Also what is your past work history and education level. SS will look at all of this and determine if there is a certain type of job you can perform based on this information. What I can tell you is make sure you can afford to attempt this. We almost lost everything. It took me 3+ years to finally get approved.
