Thanks finz I've been looking for that, now I have to figure out who I was talking to. Working on three computers at the same time gets confusing at times. Sorry, I will ask the administrator to move it to useful sites.

Yea, like others with a brain injury, I look totally normal just have functioning issues. Cant maintain focus or concentration for very long and following verbal instructions is near impossible. Multi-tasking is a joke (used to be very good at it too, which is sad). I think working at a fast food restaurant would be much more difficult of an environment than people realize. I've done it and it takes a lot of multi-tasking, theres a lot going on at one time. Not my kind of environment.
I just got hired on in a manufacturing facility doing something totally new so gonna give that a try and see how it goes. I would prefer to work if I can, just tired of getting the short end of the stick. Hopefully it will be more my kinda thing and will work out well. I'll be doing inspections so who knows..

Hope everything works out for you. I too would like to rteturn to work someday if I can get all of my issues taken care of. I do not like sitting at home everyday all the time. Plus all of my family and my wife's family asking when am I going to do this or that. Some people just do not understand. It just makes it hard when all the family gets together and they talk about work and I can't really add anything to the conversation. I am sure some of you feel the same way at times.

******************************************* Have you consulted with a lawyer Vodpop ? What does your doctor say about your ability to do SGA ? I'm concerned that you recently applied for SSDI and are now starting a new job. Didn't you write on the application that you were incapable of working ? If you can still work.....GREAT ! I hope that you can keep doing that for a long time to come ! My concern is that if this job doesn't work out, will SSDI seriously consider your application if they view this as applying when you could work full time. I wonder if you would be better off calling SSA and saying, "Cancel that application, I'm going to try to keep working." I admit I'm out of my league on this one.......Anyone else have any thoughts on this ? |

See that's what I wonder about.. How is it going to work if I start working at a new job and then say three months down the road that job doesn't work out and yet my SSD application has been denied? I dont know if working is going to hinder my application (I assume it will), but I cant take the chance on passing up a job that may work out for me, when it pays so much better. I gotta try it. Who knows maybe it would be just the right thing for me? I gotta keep trying. Besides from what I hear it can take years to get approved on SSD, and I'll be bankrupt before then. I'm getting a meager amount from unemployment right now (SSD knows about that too) which will only last about 3 months, then things are really gonna hurt. Cant survive on my husbands income alone. Advice?

keep applying. Dont give up. I have been trying to get SSDI for 4 years.
/the first time i was denied i was trying to still work and because i made over the SGA and because they thought i could do other work i was denied. I feel it does hurt you to be working when you apply. I am fortunate i can live on my husbands income and have not been working now for over a year. I am waiting for a AJL Hearing date to try it again. Its been over a year now since i reapplyed, hope to hear something soon. |

Going bankrupt is a real concern for a lot of people who are applying for SSDI and I'd bet it happens a lot. I THINK (not that I know for sure) that SSDI will tell you that if you can manage to get your butt to any job, that you will not qualify at this time. That you can't make the salary that you used to or want to is 'not their problem.' I would try researching about anyone who did get accepted while still working. Best of luck. It sure sounds like you are in a tough spot. |

vodpop: The above links refer to returning to work AFTER you have been approved for SSDI and are receiving benefits.
If you look at the "Confused and no answers" thread, you will see that Feel the Burn has a situation very similar to yours. Janke gave a great response and link: Quote:
