Hello-

First, wow, read lot of threads and people's walk down SSDI and just want to say I applaud all of you. So much red tape, documentation, pain and worry and yes some happy faces when they win

I just did online app and adult dis report for husband two weeks ago,whew, over whelming. Hus had spinal fusion in 75' at age 17 and then a 2nd one this past June. He now has rods and screws in 8 vertebrae, has osteopenia, severe arthritis of spine and both knees, born with spondylolistesis, had 11 knee surgeries on left knee with final total knee replacement few years ago; now injections in right knee. Also has skin cancer with 27 surgeries basal and squamous with two more surgeries coming this month.

He has worked since he was 16 and in the same job now for 24yrs. Hard physical labor. Was on STD from June until this past December; released to go back to work with life time lifting weight of 25#, no bending, twisting, crouching, etc. Well employer put him on LTD after a week stating he could not do his job at 100% and they were concerned about his quality of life..thus we began the process of filing for SSDI(mandatory under his LTD EMPLOYER PD benefit).

Soo, SS called hus last week few times and went over some things and asked him some questions. Mentioned he would have to go to examiner was he ok with that, he said yes, she said be sure to keep that appt. So this is where we are at..I work at a hospital and was able to obtain all his med records for past few years...and copied all that doc and hand delivered to SS office to speed things along..

So, he is 54..and not sure what you all think his chances are of getting approved...

If he has a standing job and can't stand for 6 out of 8 hours,then he would be considered disabled, unless they have changed the rules since I was awarded SSDI a few yrs. ago. Check with the Social Security blue book or ask an attorney.
His age is in his favor.

Oh yes, he was always on his feet, rarely sat at all....his employer tried him at a diff job for a week, he could only stand 2hrs and then had to sit, then another person took over, then they went back and forth taking turns, allowing hus to sit when he needed. He can't sit or stand more then 2hrs at a time. He is very very active and this is killing him not working. But his company did him a favor; putting him on LTD, he now see's that. Welcome to Neruo talk. You will find alot of information here, along with some compassion. Just from the conditions you mentioned, you have a good case to be granted disability. In my own situation, I had an assistance who helped me get through the process. He worked at an attorneys office, but only worked on these kinds of cases.
There is also a forum that deals specificaly with SSD/ SSDI and all the sometimes headaches that goes with the application process. I do wish you all the best. As you go through the paperwork, don't hesitate to ask more questions. Glad you found this site, it was very helpful to me. ginnie

Thank you...yes, googled for ssdi forum and found this site and have read thru most of the posts and gained lot of info albeit after we did the application and adult disability report. But we obtained large amount of med records, xrays, etc and dropped off to SS office. So that should help speed things up. Plus I made sure to supply good addresses, names, telephone numbers of all his doctors. So, on this walk like the rest of the folks in SSDI forum. Thanks for replying
