Default Going back to work..after being on ssdi

I am on ssdi and have been since age 62 . I just turned 65 this year. When I turn 66 next year My ssdi becomes regular social security.

If my health was to improve some time next year after my 66th birthday and I was able to work. Could I return to work and not be penalized since i will be reaching my full retirement age ..Also would I have to pay any ssdi back?

I wouldn't think there would be any kind of penalty/repayment of SSDI unless they believed there was some fraud involved and you COULD have been working for the last few years.

Not to be Debbie Downer, but is it likely that a medical intervention will improve your condition that they haven't tried yet ?

My disabling conditions (RSD, TOS, and occipital neuralgia) started with a WC incident. Even tthough I've become resigned to the fact that my status isn't likely to change, as WC has denied any tx's that might help......I still have the fantasy that I will get a tx approved that could change my life or that I'll find a job that pays HUGE money that I can do in my pj's for an hour each day !

I am still very unable to work since I have had 2 shoulders replaced and can't do alot with my arms maybe answer a phone. I also have fibromiagia.

As of right now i can't even drive a vehicle but I was wondering if things were to improve down the road and i could start driving..I just get so bored and hope someday i can do something. My doctor says it may be a another year before my shoulder heals and i am able to use it better..maybe then i could drive ..I sure hope..

It never hurts to have a fantasy like that. I think we all would like to get better. I really don't like being on disability i would much rather be healthy and be out in the world. But i would agree a job that you could do in your pjs would be nice..I wish you the best...

hi marie,if you return to work while it's still classified as ssdi whether on a part time basis or full time basis be prepared for social security to review your case.even if you work below the SGA guidlines your benefits could be in jeapardy.if social security see's that you can hold a job for any significant length of time they will terminated benefits.it happened to me and iam appealing the decision.if you work for maybe a month or 2 to test out your ability to work thats not a issue.it's when you work for several month's out and beyond that will cause social security to question your benefits.i would wait till your benefits become retirement benefits and maybe the working would not hurt you as bad.
