Default SS Disability Proof of Filing
My LTD sent me notification that I must provide a copy of the Proof of Filing of application for SSD benefits, in about 10 days. Friends, For those who have recently applied, what is required to get this Proof? What all must I do, if I do it myself? tx

I thought that the SSA sent a letter shortly after I applied staing that I had applied, my date last insured, etc, but it has been many years since I went through this.

I think if you called your local SSA office, they would be able to help you out. This must be something they deal with frequently for those on STD, LTD, and possibly WC. They MUST have a form for this. Call them.

Even if you apply online, you get to print out your confirmation number and proof that you have submitted your application for disability benefits. That should be sufficient.

If you applied in person or by mail, you should have or will be receiving a confirmation from SSA.

It sounds like that is all they are looking for is some documentation that you have submitted your application.

You could also call and request a copy from the SS office as they will have that documentation available in case you have lost it.

If you bring your application to your local office they will date stamp it and give you a copy.

Default Detailed & thorough
Due to time constraints I will be filing on my own without a lawyer to start. i read in the sticky advice above that it is best to include all detailed and thorough info. So my question is, to be able to provide detailed info and to be able to provide some of the medical records that I am already in possession of, is it best to apply on-line or in-person? Are you able to accomplish the same goal both ways? Or are you limited more if you apply on-line? tx

If you are required by the LTD carrier to apply they must help you do this as well. Most use Allsup. Its better to go directly to the SSA office in person and let an intake rep help you

You can probably spend more time doing it online because you can start and stop as you need to. If you do it in person in your local office, the claims rep may be pressured to get you in and out of the office in a shorter period of time. You are still the one who has to provide the answers to the questions, whether you do in online or in person.
