Even if you apply online, you get to print out your confirmation number and proof that you have submitted your application for disability benefits. That should be sufficient.

If you applied in person or by mail, you should have or will be receiving a confirmation from SSA.

It sounds like that is all they are looking for is some documentation that you have submitted your application.
