That is only true for certain states. NJ is not one of them.
There is a sort of loop hole in the law though. If you joined Medicare because of disability within a few months (3-6) of applying for supplemental ins, you will be enrolled. Not all states & ins carriers abide by the loop hole though. It is up to the carrier's discretion. My my Medicare & You booklet, it states which supplemental plans abides by this loop hole. AARP United Healthcare (NJ) abides by this loophole. SIDEBAR: LOOPHOLE OR LOOP HOLE
