Default Work credits for SSD

My wife doesnt have enough credits to file SSD, is there anyway to work around this? Long story short many medical issues over a 15 year period with working for a year and then no work. She was denied two years ago for not enough credits and again this year. Her condition is worsening and now is not able to work at all. Our income is over 3000 (in military) is a divorce the only option for SSI?
