any ideas i have,
disc dessication at c2/3 c3/4 c6/7
intervertable disc and degeneration at c4/5 levels due to a large posterior disc osteophytic protrusion.
i have had c5/6 done 9yrs ago fused.more pronounced at lover level associated with spinal canal stenosis.the cord at this level is thinner with subtle changes in t2 sequences suggesting chronic myelopathy.
any clue as to what this means pls.i have worked as a laborer for the last 9yrs 8wks after the last op.i have been told i cant go bk to my job,my pain is chronic and never goes away.i have no feelings in fingers and toes cant fasten buttons.no balance.i have gone down to under 9st and am nearly six foot pls help

Myelopathy usually refers to pathology a spinal cord injury due to trauma, like an injury. When it's caused by inflammation, it is known as myelitis.

Mine is myelitis, caused the the inflammation of arthritis. The disks in my neck and lower back are so inflamed that they are squeezing the spinal cord. I have numbness in hands and feet but with physical therapy and acupuncture can get some of the numbness to go away and I get a tingling or pins-&-needles feeling. Occupational therapy has helped me learn to function.

I hope that helps. What kind of treatment are you getting? I have to go through physical therapy routines, hot & cold compresses, acupressure, yoga, and occasionally a lot of cussing for up to two hours after I wake up until I'm in safe shape to leave the house, and I don't do it every day. But I have a super support system including a therapy animal, so I'm not alone. I've come here to NeuroTalk hoping to find more support from people like me.

hi thanks for the replys just waiting to see my consultant next week,to see what will be done just wanted to understand what it meant.i just couldn, t make out if i would need another op had c5/6 done.i am in sooo much pain i feel like an old man,and to be told i cant go back to my job i am gutted but i wouldn't manage it anymore anyways :0(

hi,thanks all.the conclusion at the bottom of lettewr says,spinal canal stenosis from c3 to c5 level,more so at c4/5 level due to a large posterior disc osteophytic protrution.the spinal cord at this level is thinned with high signal intensity on t2 sequences inkeeping with chronic myelopathy.i have constant pain which eases a little when i lie flat.pins and needles in hand feet,hands claw and toe cramps my left knee gives way pain is in the top neck and low back.a great deal of weight loss tiredness all the time,cant walk far without pain.elbow pain no strengh in arms or legs,legs and feet getting worse

I am sorry you are having such issues with your back. In my opinion, working hard labor, may be out of the picture for awhile. When you have constant swelling, it does squeeze the spinal cord. You need to heal before you engage in work that stresses your back. Your back is already injured. My son is an OPT. This is good to do to ease the ache. What other therapy has helped you up to this point? Try acupuncture, it does help. I have been doing this over the last few months, and am surprised. I also do PT in my home at every opportunity.
