Default Neck pain, shoulder lower than the other??

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask about this, I tried looking elsewhere but am so tired right now I couldn't find another place.

Had car accident over a year ago, herniated disc in neck, pain in neck and arm but I've also always had problems with my left shoulder, went thru PT for rotator cuff injury, MRI shows no tears.

My left shoulder slopes down a lot and is of course lower than the right one, it's very noticeable.

Has anyone had this happen? I can't lie on my left side at night because of pain but I'm wondering what can be done about this sloping business.

PT said loss of muscle, another said back and neck is out of alignment...

Any advice as to what I can do? it's too uncomfortable to hold my left shoulder up as high as the left.

Thank you

Looking forward to some answers for this, in fact I have just joined this site to ask a very similar question, but thought I would introduce myself first and join in a few threads - don't want people to get the impression I just whinge about my back LOL

You say your shoulders are sloping... does your hips pelvis and spine have good alignment? If when standing upright with your feet about 18 inches apart, when you look down are you looking directly above the midway point between your feet, or are you looking down nearer one foot or even above one of your feet ?

Hi BC,

Thank so much for your reply, when I read it I immediately stood up and looked down and I'm looking more toward my left foot...interesting! it's the left shoulder that's sloping a lot after car accident.

Which shoulder are you having problems with?

I am concerned about it, when I'm walking toward someone they will say your left shoulder is much lower than the other...

Hello, You might do some reading on our thoracic outlet forum (TOS) for short.. many of us have lower shoulder on one side.
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum24.html

It may not be an exact symptom fit but the self care and treatment ideas posted about might help..

Did you read about or try any expert upper cervical adjustment chiropractic? (C1, C2 adjusting?)

My right shoulder is the lowest but when I look down, i am looking directly above the left foot - will try and upload a photo tomorrow, it's really weird I have never seen anything like it. All a bit disturbing - I look like a cripple, which is something I have never aspired too....

Must work out how to cut my head off first, not literally I hasten to add, cut it off in photo shop - not sure the interweb could handle my ugly mask ... LOL

Hi BC,

I also feel like a cripple, not fun.

Jo*mar, thank you for the link, am going to go over and take a look, last year I was having terrible, terrible upper back pain but was told it was coming from my neck, referred pain.

A chiropractor is sending me for another MRI before he touches anything so nothing done yet, will ask him about the adjusting, thank you.

Thank you both, BC, sure hope you get answers and some relief, let me know if you get a chance?

Hmmm, not really in much pain, just very uncomfortable especially when walking - feel like I have been skewered!. walking a bit like a crab...

Never got round to the photo thing - will give another go tomorrow - it's been one of those never ending summers day today, been in the garden most of the day, still not quite dark yet (and its midnight) just love this time of the year, warm and never dark, can sit outside drinking beer until the small hours

Seriously though, about to start with a new Pilates teacher, she has told me to concentrate on the lower tummy muscles - and to do this think about stopping a pee - so what better way to do this than trying to stop a pee, so to do this I need to drink more - so finally an excuse to buy more beer - medicinal purposes and all that
