Confused C4C5,C5C6,C6C7 ACDF complications

Recently (3 weeks ago) had the above neck surgery. Supposedly fusion successfull, but have problem. Cannot lift left arm from shoulder. can bend at elbow with difficulty but cannot lift arm. I've been told there is palsey of nerve at C5 and that 3-6 months of PT will correct this. Anyone with experience with this? I'm afraid I've lost the use of the arm and am very scared and depressed over this development. Would sure like to hear from someone that knows of recovery in this instance.
Thanks
