Hi everyone
I am still having many problems with numbness, pain ect and still no diagnosis as yet, still sitting with a heat pad wedged into my you know what, really fed up. I got a copy of a letter that the Neurologist sent to my GP with ref to my EMG test but I haven't seen the Neurologist {I need the results from the full spine MRI I am having tomorrow first} so I don't know what this means as I haven't spoken to the doc. {{''This lady's electrophysiology is quite clear in that it shows S1 innovated neurogenic change which is indicative of lumbar pathology'' }} What does that mean in English please, and does it show there is nerve dammage? I cannot understand why my problems do not relate to the dermotone maps, S1 probs are not the same as the ones I have???? Anyone got any ideas please. thank you Bev x |

Hi Bev,
I don't think I can help you much other than maybe help you in any searches you might be doing regarding the statement: "shows S1 innovated neurogenic change," sent in the letter to your GP. Did they perhaps mistype the word and mean to say "innervated" instead of "innovated"? I can somewhat sympathize with what you are dealing with, I've been having shooting, stabbing, burning pains that come across my left hip and into the lower left groin area. Just the burning sensation in the left side of my "private parts" is more than annoying. I could not imagine having true searing pain in that entire area. I'm lucky in that they know that my pain is being caused by scar tissue (CT scan showed some swelling in lower left abdomin) that has built up after three surgeries this past summer, iliac crest bone graft & 2 hernia repairs, that were in the path of where the ilioinguinal nerve runs and now it's ****** off. I am scheduled for nerve ablation to kill the nerve and stop it from firing on Nov 21st. I hope you can find some relief soon. Another thing I wanted to point out is....My pain doc asked if my pain started at my side or did it start in my back and wrap around to my hip. I know that the nerve he intends to do the nerve ablation on exits the spine at L1. So.....since my pain starts just above the hip on my far left side, just a little to the back, it indicates the scar tissue is indeed aggravating the nerve and its not being pinched coming out of the spine at the L1 level. I'm including a link to an interesting map of what nerves innervate what parts of the body. http://www.neuroguide.com/deepperoneal.html Hope this helps! Hang in there and see what your dr's suggest and keep us posted. Best wishes, Kim
