he died in 1944, 19 days after landing at Normandy. My uncle died just a few days later... every Memorial Day I think of them and thank them for what they gave to our country..and my Grandmother ,mother, aunt and uncle for what they gave...
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. |

A good friend of ours recently traveled to Normandy and took a picture of my husbands relative who is buried there...he also placed a rose on his grave and it meant the world to Mr.Alffe. His name was Courtney and he parachuted from a plane, landed in a tree and was shot while hanging there.
There are so many stories of their bravery....thanks for sharing this Ducky.

my grandfather was one of those men you read about who was shot going through a hedgerow. friendly fire but you can't blame anyone. It was a horrible situation. I have seen two presidents put flowers on my grandfather's grave. They don't know it's him...it's just the first cross to the right of the flagpole...but I know. And I am grateful to have been there and to have pictures. My uncle is buried beside my grandfather... someone knew they were family.
My grandfather was James Christopher Williams. My uncle was John Kyle Harvey. I am proud of them. Last edited by da duck; 05-30-2011 at 04:41 PM. Reason: to *** their names |

'LEST WE FORGET'
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condem. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgQv0GvIuV8&feature=fvst[/url] David
