If you guys have any idea on what I could be suffering with, please let me know. I am desperately looking for an answer and I NEED to feel better. I'm so sick of feeling this way and am loosing hope. The light at the end of the tunnel is closing and now I just think of life as pointless..

I'm glad that the neurologist thinks there is reason to believe there may be a physical cause for your symptoms. That's promising. The EEG may show evidence of PCS or some other neurological cause for your symptoms. What, I won't speculate, and I don't think anyone else should either.

I hope that your new neuro finds a medical cause for your symptoms and there is an easy treatment that can quickly return you back to enjoying life again… but I am concerned that every time a new medical possibility presents itself you rely on that for your salvation, and with all the disappointments you have had, you've been riding a roller coaster. I can't imagine the effect it has been having on your level of anxiety, and I can see how that would intensify your desperation for a diagnosis and treatment/cure.

If she finds nothing on the EEG, you are not doomed.

There is more work, and likely more time, involved, but you can still find improvement in at the very least your symptoms of depression and anxiety through therapy and medication. These modalities can be used in addition to whatever treatment you're prescribed when/if you're diagnosed with a medical condition. The search for answers on its own seems to be taking its toll on you, and I hope that that is a subject of discussion between you and your therapist

I know you're tired of this.
Please don't give up hope.
I'll be thinking of you Friday.
I wish I could give you a real hug, Sam

Hi everyone,

So I went to the neurologist last Friday, and boy the roller coaster ride has took a turn.

So my first visit I took a EEG and discussed with the neurologist. She said that there are many different things that could be causing this neurologically.

Then, the EEG results came back Monday. I have abnormal brain waves! So yes, I shouldn't be happy about this cause its bad I have something wrong with me, but I'm just happy they found something that's treatable.

So apparently in my temporal lobe on both sides the EEG showed that there were discharges and abnormalities going on. She is putting me on a medication called trileptal which is used to treat temporal lobe epilepsy and help the temporal lobe get back to normal.

I'm happy they found something, and I'm not crazy, but I just hope this is what is causing my symptoms. She said it definitely can, but shes not sure if this is what is causing my symptoms and its unusual that its constant, and the only way we can see is by trying the medication, and once the medication gets my brain back to normal then we will see if I get results or not.

I did some research and it says that temporal lobe epilepsy can cause numbness, but in most cases its not constant like mine. Let me know what you guys think!

The neurologist might just be on something

My eldest child is a epileptic
And she too has taken the same drug
She has had brain surgery
Her seizures are emanating from the occipital lobe
She had partial removal of the lobe
It did not irradiate the seizures as hoped
Point she having been and still is on a number of meds
Including a VNS Inplant
She continues to have seizures
And she always experiences aura
Still to date
She to describes feeling like you
and in addition she says there is
a constant déjàvu I
And all the colors of the flags

You just might be on to something
Much success Sam
Awesome

Just to move forward in the day

I'm glad that the neurologist has discovered that you are having seizures. It's an important thing to know. I highly doubt that this is an arbitrary finding or that the EEG showing that you're having seizures is a coincidence.

I think the seizures must be at least contributing to your symptoms. As Eva mentioned, some kinds of seizures are preceded by an aura, and at this point, nobody knows how often you are having them. You could be having seizures and experiencing this kind of aura very frequently.

Depression and anxiety are natural reactions to living with the symptoms you've had to deal with for so long, and it may just be making matters worse. I wouldn't abandon treatment, but I suggest making an appointment with your psych med prescriber to notify him of your new diagnosis and new med. He may want to reevaluate your care plan.

Trileptal is used off label to treat bipolar disorder. While you don't have bipolar disorder, I wonder if it will have any psychological benefits for you? It would be wonderful if it killed two birds with one stone.

I'm so happy that you have some of the answers you have been desperately seeking, Sam
I hope that you start seeing some benefits from the trileptal soon, but like other meds, the dose may need some adjustments. Please be patient.

-Kay

Hi bizi,

It's going the same. I've been on the medication for the temporal lobe epilepsy for around 2 weeks now I think and no changes just yet. My neurologist said if there is no changes by 4 weeks then shes either going to increase the dose or try another medication.

Symptoms are all still there...

- The unreal depersonalization
- Tingling in head
- numbness
- Fatigue
- I get weird sudden random emotions

All symptoms of TLE ;/

it is best to start at a lower dose and work your way up.
Still be patient in this process, I know it can be frustrating but you have shown great maturity and that is admirable.
