Default Bad Storms!!!

I don't know if Doody or KathyM will see this or not... please check in when it is safe.

I saw on the weather channel that BAD BAD STORMS are headed toward Doody's neck of the woods...

Looks like they will also be in KathyM's neck of the woods by morning..

Please everyone keep Doody and all the Doody family in your prayers!!
Please everyone keep KathyM and all of her family in your prayers too!!

I'm not familiar with locations of many people here but if you are in the path of these storms... you are in my prayers as well!!!

Please everyone be careful... Weather Channel is reporting numerous tornadoes in Nebraska and Kansas... storms moving North and East.

Thumbs up

Thanks ((Abbie and everyone))

I just checked our weather report for today and it's says "strong thunderstorms, damaging winds, large hail and possibly a tornado." It struck me as funny because I don't think I've ever seen a tornado listed on a standard forecast. Gee, how does one dress for a tornado?

I have a strange relationship with tornadoes. I lived through two of them, both huge (1967 & 1990). I respect them, but they don't frighten me. The world is a big place. I figure if a cloud bothers to form into a finger and pick me off of this big ball, it's just my time to go.

Maybe I should be concerned about what I'm wearing today. I could put my hair in braids and dress up like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. My neighbor would like that - he thinks she's hot.

Doody - hope you're okay.

((Abbie)) thanks for thinking of us.

Everyone here is still very nervous after Sunday's devastating tornado in Parkersburg, IA (about 35 miles from here). The whole state is still in shock over that one. Category F-5, and that puppy was huge. The tornado itself was 1-1/4 miles wild, if you can even imagine that. The people who died in it were actually IN their basements. The stories we hear every day are heartbreaking. I'm still in shock over a few in particular. A mother and her friend with her child were in their basement, the house lifted into the tornado and started to suck the little girl up. A large piece of PVC pipe came flying onto the mother so she grabbed it, threw it over her child, and she and her friend held her down with the PVC pipe until the eye hit.

She said being in the eye of that mile wide tornado was, of course, unlike anything she'd ever seen. They said they could see cars, etc., swirling around in it. They took that opportunity to run under some stairs (?) before the tornado's eye passed and the devastation began again. Oi.

Anyway, yup, wild storms again last night. Twice I went to the storm shelter, twice getting soaked in my pajamas. Grabbed Bruna and took her with me and she was SO scared. We were sopped.

Lucky. We just have branches etc laying around all over town though a couple of places were hit with the ferocious lightning and one house caught on fire from the lightning.

Otherwise, just fine! No worries. The prayers that are needed are for those poor souls in Parkersburg.

Doody,
I'm glad you are ok... I was wondering about you....Kathy, I understand what you mean about tornadoes.... i've been around them all my life and they dont scare me either... but like you i respect them. i've seen the F-5 ones and i've seen the damage they can do. Dont get me wrong, if a tornado was headed my way i'd take cover and i'd sure be praying for protection. I'm so glad you guys are ok.... {{{{HUGS}}}

Oh yeah, they are frightening when you're in them. I'm not scared when tornado watches come out, but it's ugly when they hit!

Now this site is really interesting (the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK) which is totally up to date on the confirmed F-5 and EF-5 tornadoes in the United States, really something! (Oh, the stats are just from 1950 on...even more before that.)

Doody

I have been praying for those people. It's a blessing to survive such a monster, but it's still devastating to lose everything else. I was 9 when I had my first introduction to the power of an F4/5. On one intersection down the street from me, 16 people lost their lives while stuck in traffic. To this day, I remember them when I cross that intersection. If it hadn't been my birthday, my father would have been stuck in that intersection too. Thankfully, he came home early that day because it was my birthday.

Our windows blew out and it shook up the house, but it remained standing. I doubt this house would survive another though.

In 1990, I watched another big one from an 18th floor corner office - all glass - headed straight for us. The building was evacuated, but my boss wanted me to stick around because he wanted to dictate some notes - on SAFETY, of all things! When I pointed out the huge tornado and another funnel forming right across the street from us, he said "Cool, I've never been in a tornado before - I'll talk fast."

Geneva hates thunder and lightening - even when it's off in the distance. You should see her try to climb onto my lap. I suspect I'll be spending the day trying to console her.

Poor Bruna - at least she doesn't weigh 140 lbs.
