Yes Nikki, people with AD do tend to lose weight. I wish I could tell you why, but I don't know the reason. When they're in hospital they get fed properly, so I can't give you the answers that you want.

I will not make things up, but I suppose I could have looked up things on the Internet to give you the answers that you need.

I will have a look tomorrow for you if there's any particular thing you'd like me to investigate, as I still have access to some medical books.

It is just taking a toll on me, and killing my hope. I am told these later stages of AD can last for a few years, but I just don't see how with him wasting away. It is painful for me to see him now, when I help him shower and dress. He was so robust and healthy, now he is skin and bones. Nothing I do is stopping it. I guess I will have to accept their answer, that it is part of the late stage of the disease *sigh

Oh Nikki....

I understand what you're saying, and I wish there was something I could say or do to help you!

I can see what Lynn looks like just by the description that you've given me.

I'm worried about you now. I hope that you're not too overtired, and worn out!

well to be fair, my neurologist told me ... it is because the part of the brain that effects metabolism has been destryoed by the Alzheimer's. That their bodies just don't know how to use the food any more. I guess I have to believe it. But I have been trying EVERYTHING to put weight on him, yet..he is still losing. SO, I guess it must be true.

well i have some good news on that front. Seems doctors are more concerned with my health than Lynns. I have been given a grant!!! It can be used for adult day care, Lynn would hate that!!! Or I can hire someone to come in the home, a family member even, to give me 15 hours a week respite care. I couldn't believe it!

I'm pleased about that grant Nikki!

I know that you're probably not happy about having Lynn in day care, maybe you can think about another option that won'y upset you or him.

Now that his anger and agression is under control, I can now ask someone in my family. He would be very comfortable with that. I could go watch a movie Or to lunch with friends! Anything would be great. I thought it was very sweet of them. They said stastics prove that caregivers often become ill, and even die before the one they are caring for. So they are now offering respite care to all caregivers. How sweet is that!
