Default Monkey Mind

Huh? What's that?

I never heard of it before today when my boss told me. I was relaying to him how tired I was because last night when I was trying to sleep, I was obsessively worrying about something in my life that is causing me a lot of stress. It was driving me nuts trying to stop thinking about it, but I finally fell asleep from exhaustion.

My boss said, "That's Monkey Mind!" And he started telling me about Buddhists and Yoga and Monkey Mind (sometimes Monkey Brain).

I did a little searching on it and had a hard time finding much about it, but I found this interesting blog about 'Monkey Brain'. And how being like that can be a detriment to your brain! Well, doh, but it means physically detrimental.

Hmmmmm.

Quote:
No matter which form of meditation one practices, we all have experienced monkey mind. We sit down with the intention of focusing on the breath, or an image, or a mantra, and soon our mind is composing shopping lists, enumerating the ways we were slighted during the day, planning a vacation, or whatever else might arise. Yet the purpose of meditation is to learn to focus the mind, to get the monkey in its cage.

We all like to believe we are free and at the same time we are aware that all too easily, it's our thoughts that also restrict our freedom.

No wonder I like the meditation CD I have from that wonderful lady in Colorado that I've raved about. I sent a copy to BMW and she likes it too.

Meditation sure is hard with a monkey mind.

Right, Curious?????
