((Alffe))Being that I love the show, I would be glad to fill you in on Dr. Gregory House. He is a medical genius who suffers with severe pain that effects every aspect of his life. He also has an addiction to pain medications, and as you pointed out, a bad attitude

His leg: he suffered an infarction in his leg. The only symptom was leg pain that was misdiagnosed. By the time House diagnosed himself, the "muscle death" was so severe, amputation was recommended.

House wanted death over the loss of his leg. He rejected the amputation and said he instead wanted to try a procedure that would bypass the area around the dead muscle. The result of the surgery was an intense pain so horrific he nearly suffered cardiac arrest was put in an induced comma.

Against his wishes, his live in girlfriend (also a doctor) at the time decided to have the dead muscle cut away while he lay comatose. He now suffers intense pain every second of his life. Hence the limp and the attitude.

Of course it is his attitude that I love so much. Not saying I want his bedside manner used on me But I love it! I like the idea of a doctor in pain too. I also live with horrific pain daily, and I like that this programs shows even a doctor can't cure himself. Some pain, there is nothing that can help. Even narcotics can not touch nerve pain.

So yeah, I have a love hate relationship with him. Course I have always liked medical shows. One of my first crushes as a child was on Trapper John MD

So there ya go House 101 lol. Ummm not that I am addicted to the show or anything

Ohhhhhhhhh...I didn't know it was a soap opera! *grin. (don't hit me) and I do understand about identifying with a character. *whisper...I have no clue what an infarction is but will google it.

and I have a question...how could that live in dr. take it upon herself to cut away his dead muscle. How believable is that! Are they still together?

On a semi serious note...do we know why the dr. killed himself? And what night of the week is this on?

((Alffe)) Yep, would not have believed it, but I am sitting her smiling

In medicine, an infarction results in the death of a macroscopic area of tissue in an organ due to loss of adequate blood supply. The resulting dead tissue is termed necrotic.

Ok, I goofed, his girlfriend was not a doctor, but a lawyer. The reason she could make that choice on his leg, was because she was his medical proxy. House could not forgive her, and she left him.

Ahhh it is all coming back to me LOL

The show really is a bit of a soap opera. The same cast dealing with new and complicated, unique, hard to solve cases each week. Monday nights btw.

As for why Dr Kutner killed himself. NO ONE KNOWS. In fact in the episode just before this, he is the one who solves a case and is high on life and praise from his colleagues. It was a complete shock.

That is what I like most about it. The cast were all stunned. It was just like in real life. I know it was that way for me with Dad, and I imagine many others here... you just sit there wondering why? What could have been that bad?

If it's going to be on at the same time as The Antique Road Show you will just have to link it for me every Tues. morning.

So, did last nights show shed any light on the whys? Or is the subject now closed? Was there any talk of him at all? Is Dr.House still grieving? Curious minds want to know. *grin

(show shed...seashells)

((Alffe)) Last weeks episode did show the after effects to the casts lives. It wasn't on last night.... *withdrawals* I imagine, unlike real life.... the show will move past his suicide much quicker than we do. As we all know.... a loved ones suicide, changes us.. forever. *sigh

Last night the Antique Road Show was in Grand Rapids Michigan and one of the treasures someone brought in was this...

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/archive/200805A01.html

That was drama for me! *grin

And thank you Nikki for bringing me up to speed on House...

Alffe Dr House is not grieving,he's thinking about any complicated sickness that a patient may have. Then he pops a vicodin, insults everyone in the sound of his voice, and his team, and tricks the patients. Do you get the program in Canada?

I saw that antique show. I was amazed that this old civil war ammunition box was worth about 7 thousand dollars. Did you see that?

Nik-key I had a cousin in Norfolk,Va.,that came home from Vietnam, and he killed himself. All of our family found out about it,and kept very silent about it. My Uncle Herman was murdered around the same time. I didn't understand what was going on with our family members, and Dad started drinking heavily.

I hear that it's very bad for the soldiers who are coming home from Iraq. They had the guy who played Captain Dan in Forrest Gump ask American vets. to call a emergency hotline,if they felt suicidal. A Sargent Major that I know told me 2 years ago that the service men,and women in Iraq, are going to have a high PTSD rate.

I hope that you are doing well. BF

Steve I am not in Canada, I'm in Indiana and yes, I saw that ammunition box with no hinge! I love that show....now I'll think of you when I'm watching it!

Maybe Dr.House could "grow on me" but he seems so cruel. He is, however, very good looking! *grin
