After we ran some errands, we had lunch at a Chinese buffet. Crab rangoons and veggie lo mein, mmmm! What's better than deep fried cream cheese and greased spaghetti?
The irony was not lost on me--all those slim, healthy, attractive Chinese courteously serving us, the piggies at the buffet trough. They obviously don't eat that stuff. Or at least not as much.

B2Y,
I think they eat plain rice and fish and lots of fruits and veggies too. I love crab rangoon and it doesn't seem to make my shellfish allergies flair up if I just have a few. They probably use the imitation crab to make it in our area. I also love eggrolls, General Tso's chicken, fried rice and wonton soup. I better stop it or I'm gonna be raiding the fridge here soon.

We love Chinese food. The restaurant we always go to and order from calls Crab Rangoons "Crab Angles". For the longest time I thought they were saying crab "ankles".......couldn't figure out how crabs had ankles but knew I loved them so I didn't question it. Finally, when I was reading the menu I saw the word "angles". I didn't tell either of my boys about it 'cos I'd have never heard the end of it. I'm still hearing about the time I reminded them to rewind the DVD after they watched it!
Now the chicken I fixed for supper tonight doesn't sound good anymore!

From what I have read, the "Chinese" food we get here in the States, is NOT real Chinese food.
There has been a book written about the differences. But I can't recall it just now. The author was on Today last year.

Local diner here is run by a Chinese man and his wife. Very nice folks, and its an American style diner. He said that Americans expect a messed up version of what real chinese food is. He said americans like everything deep fried, and covered in butter, and salt. Chinese like simple, plain food. Plain rice, and plain fish. Maybe some soy sauce, but not much past that. They like pickled things as well, but americans dont like the bitter taste of the pickled stuff he says.
We always say we are going for a Chinese cheeseburger when we go out to eat there. he makes great food, and home made. no MSG or mixed up messes over there.

Ate Chinese food tonight too, from the local grocery store deli, but still good. Pork fried rice, sesame chicen, some kind of potato dish and an eggroll.
Our favorite Chinese restaurant closed a few months ago; owner retired. :-( Also love Mexican food. ~ Faith
