If someone makes you uncomfortable or you think something seems off then by all eans do not let them in. With that said. I do know that some companies hire third party vendors to do some of their selling door to door as well as customer service. My company being one of them. Hope that makes you feel a little better.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts about this situation! I knew I could count on you!!! Well, I did call the phone company and was surprised to learn that they DO have some door-to-door salespeople. Who knew??? They usually wear a badge and do drive their own cars, so he must have parked out of my sight. The woman I spoke with was very nice and actually said that if she was home alone and a strange "salesman" came to the door, she wouldn't let him in either. So we can all relax -- it doesn't appear to be a scam or rapist on the loose......at least this time.

But we all should be careful about whom we let into our homes, especially these days with so many "crazies" out there. Thanks again!!!!

I'm still glad I have a little "yapper" to keep an eye on things!

Your right, that is just weird. Call the company.

That is going on around my town as well! The lastest was for a security system. We were told by the police to immediately call them if we were suspicious or they couldn't show a peddler's permit. They were robbing homes while distracting the owners or going back later and trying to break in.

I'm so glad you are safe, Judy.

I live in a little town where its easy to feel safe and let your guard down.

My friend sat on her front porch with a door-to-door salesman this spring. She didn't buy his cleaning products, but he followed her in the house anyway and groped her from behind.

She is still freaked about that and wants to bring charges, but he is long gone. The police who investigated said he'd been charged with sexual misconduct before.

You can never be too careful!

Rochelle -- I live in a small town also, actually in the township in an area that usually doesn't have salespeople coming to the door. That's what seemed so suspicious to me, but apparently the phone company needs more business (NOT) and sends people out door-to-door. Go figure??? My doors are staying locked!

I run the local FreeCycle for my town, and warn folks all the time. If someone is coming to your house to pick up, or drop off, and you just dont feel right, CLOSE THE DOOR! You are NEVER under any obligation to allow someone into your home, nor are you ever forced to enter someone elses home. If your little voice says "no!" LISTEN!

Too many times our seniors see someone in uniform, or with a name tag (computer generated or not) and they think they are there on "official" business. They will take them down to the basement to see the fuse box, or oil tank, and while they are downstairs the partner is wiping out their good jewelry, or in/out mail box for the check account numbers, SS numbers, and CC numbers. 30 seconds for someone to step in and rob your desk. Most seniors have worked hard to keep their bills paid, and since they have a good credit score, they are a slow target. They are trusting.

Call me rude? People I don`t know coming to my door ticks me off, especially if they are selling something! Although I was a truck driver I do try to avoid talking like one, except to unwanted phone or door solicitations.

i'm glad you're safe and that you investigated this person.
i still wouldn't have let him in. you were right to follow your "6th sense".
sometimes we don't listen to that little voice and put ourselves in danger.
