I'm hoping his parents get the bill for the "rescue".

Looking at the parents, I wont be surprised if it turns out the brothers made up the whole story. It's possible they assumed that the 6yr old was in the balloon, but I wont be surprised to find out that they accidentally let the balloon go, and then told the 6yr old to hide so they wouldnt get in trouble or something.

I'd like to see CPS visit this family regularly. Anyone who'd willingly go on a reality show called Wife Swap has a few screws loose. (a large jar of loose screws, with a few nuts thrown in) Looks like they're passing the screwy-ness down to their kids.

Okay, I saw the story on the news just a bit ago and I remember this couple from "Wife Swap". I remember she (his wife) screamed alot and he was very rude and disrespectful to the lady who had to spend time with his family. They're storm chasers........and he involved the whole family in chasing after tornadoes.

These two children don't have much direction, from what I could see, from the parents. It doesn't surprise me at all that something like this happened. Watching the father being interviewed on TV tonight it's obvious that they're just attention seekers.

That's what I thought. They're not having enough attention paid to them anymore, so they're out for attention now. They might not have intentionally launched the balloon, but I got the feeling that they took advantage of the situation once they figured out the kid was ok.

After seeing the news and reading more - it sounds like there were 2 older brothers they had a video camera and were up on the garage or shop roof .{ to video the flight???}

I think the older boys pranked or set up the little brother to untie the thing and then he went and hid when it took off.

On the news video of it landing the little enclosed area on the balloon looked quite small almost to small for a kid to fit into.

When I first saw the video of the balloon, there was no point of reference to see how big it was. It wasnt until the balloon was coming down in the field and the guy ran up to it to grab the mooring lines that I realized how small it really was. That's when I figured the kid wasnt inside it. I still wondered where the kid was. My worry was that the kid's brothers had done something to him and hidden the body because they were scared or something.

I'm a big fan of Mythbusters, and they busted a myth about a bunch of balloons carrying off a small child several years back. They had to have nearly 4,000 helium balloons to get enough lift to carry off a 4 or 5yr old kid. (googled it, it took 3,500 balloons to lift a 44 pound four yr old girl) That balloon today was nowhere near the size they'd need to get the lift to haul a 6yr old up to 8,000 feet.

I'll admit, I was hooked on the story too. I just kept thinking if that kid flew into the rockies, or whatever, I just pictured a terrible ending.

When it landed I thought "there is no way a kid could be in that basket, and if he was in the balloon, the helium would have killed him.

Tonight I vaguely remember hearing on the news (which I watched as a I was falling asleep) that they asked him if he heard them calling for him, he said "yes" his father then asked why he didn't answer, the boy replied "because you told me not to". I think this was a stunt, which makes me angry.

Now I'm reading the kid had to throw up twice during an interview!!? Sounds like anxiety and stress to me. He's only six, don't know who orchestrated it all, but sounds like he was a young, cute willing tool.

The kid said when interviewed..."I couldnt come out yet, it was part of the story!" and then when pushed for better answers, the father jumped in to try to explain what his son meant, but the boy turned green, and was ill. the next interview he was sick again, when pushed for truthful answers, and again the daddy jumped in to explain what his son meant. They are now refusing other interviews claiming they are "exhausted, and stressed"

I hope they get the FULL bill, for the rescue. I hope they get CPS knocking on their door. I hope that boy gets some treatments, and attention. When child is physically ill when being interviewed, it shows he is having to swallow the truth, and since he cant explain himself, he is getting ill.

I remember them on WS, and mom was not exactly providing any rules, boundaries, or limitations. they sleep in their street clothes in case they have to jump and run at 4am to chase a storm. Sounds like dad needs a reality check, not a reality show. *******.

How old was that girl who flew a plane, crashed and died? Her Mom claimed girl wanted to. (Fly, not Die) Little kids want to do all sorts of things! My 8 year old wanted to skateboard off the roof (no, never allowed), loves to turn my power chair on high (he's 17 now) and careen around house and don't I yell, but he tries again next day. His friend broke an ankle in my drive (I did not look out window at correct time for all that) on a skateboard (one of those new skinny, two-wheeled ones) and DS calmly drove him to ER. Later DS calmly drove him to ER when kid had pneumonia and could hardly breath for chest pain. No wonder I have to dye my gray hair. A parent's job is to try their hardest to protect. That means being aware of dangers, of what kids might do. Kids are 17 now, my drinking radar is on 24/7. And my dangerous sex practices radar is on (I 'm not stupid, I have no misconceptions about sex), but stupidity is not allowed!!!! No wonder I get so tired, but this is my responsibility.
