I am still so mad. He can invest in an xbox but not a leash that works?

He is lucky I have stopped my DH from "having a talk with him"

Exclamation

There is no excuse for the way they treated you Dejibo.

When people like that show their true colors, they lose face...so then they up the abuse against you...to deflect their own weaknesses. Dumping on you is their way. So please don't take it personally. Considering you were doing a FAVOR... they must be really low lifes to treat you that way. Sheesh.

I would consider telling your neighbors who entrusted you with the key, as to what happened. If those renters can be so cruel to you and the dog, imagine what they will do to the house itself?
Poor tenants..etc.

The poor pooch... he probably had a great time, AWOL, running free!

I'd report them anyway. Who's to say they didn't take him somewhere else and crate him? They don't deserve to have a pet.....and that dog sure doesn't deserve to have to live with them.

My dog, a rescue also, if gate left open for hours, will not leave yard. When he had a crate, liked it as his place and stayed, because door often left open, it was not a cage. He would lay beside it when cats took it over and would'nt leave on their own. He is definately an easy dog.

Wow. I don't even know what to say . I'm so sorry Dej . I believe you can always tell a person's character by how they treat animals. Obviously these people don't deserve to have any animal. Turn them in.

Crating has just become a tool and excuse for many who should not have animals. It's like locking a child in a closet (sicko parents have done thies- I 've dealt with the children later). It suppose to be their safe place, not a locked long time "punishment", they end up emptying themelves in out of desperation!!

I used to work with a lady who had a poodle that she kept crated all day while she was at work. She said she didn't want her running all over the house and "messing things up". Why have a pet if all you're going to do is keep it in a cage???

My Dad had a little terrier (Ginger) who slept in a crate but the door was always open. She liked the security of it but was never made to stay in it against her will. In fact, he took the whole door off and put blankets inside. I think she just liked the feeling of being away from everything without actually being caged.

Dej, I hope you reported these people and this little dog gets a chance at a real life.

I've always, only used a crate for training purposes. It works...and yes doggies learn to feel safe and secure in them.

Pal's crate is still here, but he sleeps on a comfort on the chair now..

crates can be a good thing is used as a TOOL, not as a way to box in an animal so you can escape without poop in your house!

I spoke to the dog warden today. He visited their home today at 9 am and they were not home, we can hear the dog. he was back at 12 and no humans. none at 3 and none at 6 a few minutes ago. that is 9 hours so far today that we know the dog has been crated. Dog warden is a tough old Marine, and friends with my DH. He will keep coming back till he finds someone home. I think the lil doggie will be finding a new home soon. its really sad that its come to that, but dont get a dog if you need/want to be gone for 12 hour days! Get a cat!

Thanks for all the support. I felt so horrible. I have been lame since climbing out of the woods, and his parents have yet to say thank you. They did call to say they were not mad at me. Sheesh, what a nice guy! We have turned them over to the authorities, and they will shake it out. I am not dealing with them, and I pray that he has the courage to come to my home.

Thanks!
