Default Horrible Mammogram experience. (long)

I always dread going because it always hurts sooo bad I cry!

Anyhow; I told the tech I have problems holding still because of tremors and I know it will be difficult for them because I am a very round "B".

I asked her to please be patient with me because it will hurt more as it pulls so hard at the skin on my chest wall trying to get an image.

She removed the drape exposing both Sara and Susan and said "you have a red skin here on this one that looks like cancer".

I told her that my Doctor had sent me to the surgeon last year and my mammogram came out okay and the red and white spots (on Susan) was a birthmark that's always been there.

She said a surgeon doesn't know anything about what's on the outside only the inside so she wouldn't know anything about breast cancer anyway.

She was very rough yanking and trying to position me which is darn near impossible. She was angry with me because I couldn't stand still and I was whiney and a baby.

She took more images of Susan while talking to the other tech and saying how difficult I was to image and how easy the woman was ahead of me.

(No wonder; her twins were like golf balls in socks! )

She went on to describe the horrors of breast cancer and I would likely die a long and painful death.

She said my surgeon should have operated when she had the chance and letting it go so long wasn't a good idea because it has a big head start!

When I got home I called the clinic and spoke to the supervisor about what had transpired and what they had said about my surgeon.

I hope no one ever has to go through something like this and this is my last mammogram. Both the twins are bruised and Susan is really sore so using an ice pack.

I called my Doctor today and they will ultrasound from now on at the hospital because I refuse to go back there.

Oh, Janie, that tech has no business doing mammograms! I'm glad you reported her. She'll discourage people from having this test.....and it's so essential. I hope you'll reconsider your decision not to have another one. There are techs who know how to do it with minimal discomfort. I know......I'm very well endowed and, even tho it's not the most comfortable thing in the world, they do manage to make it bearable.

I hope Susan's feeling better tonight.

I am speechless!!! I can't believe that happened to you and I am so sorry. I recently had one done and the girl was great! She was patient with me and was willing to come up with options to help me if I had trouble standing.

I am glad you called the supervisor and complained. I would take pictures of the bruising and such to confirm how rough the girl was.

Sending you gentle cybers.

OUCH! I would contact the medical board in your state about her too. People like that should not be in the health care field! I am so sorry you ahd to deal with all that.

Janie, Go one step further and write a letter. Send it to the hospital. Also call the liaison, if there is one.

How old was the technician??

I had a mammo recently, I was commenting how the technology has so improved and how the machine no longer has to smash to take a good picture.

Makes me angry that you were treated this way and embarrassed as well. She was lucky it was you instead of me. Her head would be smashed (figuratively) in that machine!!!

But seriously, you need to follow through because the tech will continue to abuse her own job if allowed to continue.

I too am speechless. I hope that tech is fired on the spot. She has no business telling you that your going to die a long horrible death! WTH is wrong with her? And I am so sorry but I would trust my surgeon over a tech any day. She's damn lucky it wasn't my girls she was yanking around and getting mad at or she'd find herself getting a headogram!

If they are affiliated with any hospital, I'd also go ahead and call the head of that hospital and let them know how you were treated.

That's odd, I didn't think they were supposed to diagnose people....

I'm so shocked at how you were treated that I am at a loss for words. Wow. I'm so sorry you were treated so abusively.
