First thing that came to mind was my pets but they aren't a "thing". They're family.

Like Joelle said, if one of my kids needed something and I could sell something to get it I would. As a Mom there's nothing I wouldn't do for one of my children.

I have my parent's old Bibles. They each had one....exactly the same.....but Mom's was much more worn out than Dad's. I wouldn't part with them, either. They meant alot to my parents and for some reason I feel like they are just way to special to ever leave my grip. Now, if my sister wanted to have them I'd give them to her in a second. I know they'd be safe with her.

This is a fun topic. I am a very sentimental person as well, Particularly things in my parents home. My grandmother died a few years ago and they have what she had, and sadly, she sold much of what she had in her later years. If only I could get some of it back, oh man.

Seriously, of my own things, I have plenty of things I wouldn't sell, I will try to think about my post prized possession and let you know.

Two material things I would never sell would be my mom's wedding ring and her birthstone ring, plus a small sculpture of a mother duck lying down with all of her babies on and around her. I bought it for my mom for one of her birthdays, then took it back when she died.

Anything else (besides hubby and dog) I would sell in a heartbeat, or give away if someone wanted it badly enough.

I have a little blown glass figurine in the shape of an angel that my boys gave to me one Mother's Day. I wouldn't part with that for anything.

In the most dire of circumstances like needing money for a lifesaving operation for a loved one, of course everything has its price.

But if that is not the case, it would be my mother's diamond from her engagement ring. It is now part of my wedding set. The diamond is not large but it is a European cut, very unusual.

I want to pass it to my DD.

The question is...would she then sell it for a dollar sign with lots of zeroes behind it?

My heirlooms probably are only valuable to me, so there's no point selling them for whatever reason. But other things that are kinda special, if the need arose, I could part with.

One time I sold diamond earrings to pay for my dog's surgery - she was WAY more valuable than any stones. And this year I came within inches of getting rid of my Amish oak dining room because it was not gonna fit in the new house. Whew! Close call, lol.

It's great to have special things, but they don't rule my life.



Aarcyn - My mom's engagement ring, a big ol' vintage saphire, she passed directly to my dd on her 18th BDay. They are both September babies. Funny, my dgd shares my birthmonth too - April. She's 3 and already interested in my jewelry, chip off the old block.

I have a drum table that was my maternal grandmother's. My mother loved it. I have it in my crawlspace. I was going to give it to my DS34, but he keeps getting divorced so much that I don't want it to go to any future former wife It needs to be sanded and stained, but it's beautiful. I am unsure how old it is, but I'll never sell it.
I also have a small blue sugar and creamer that came over on the boat from Belgium with my DH's great grandparents. I also promised that to the DS, but for the same reason it's staying in my china cabinet.
Oh, and every year when we decorate the Christmas tree, there is one ornament that only I put on the tree.
It is a cheap cornsilk ornament that was my grandma's...it has a tiny picture of an angel's face glued on it. My mother used to hang it on her tree, and now I do the same, as a rememberance of them. I am thinking of giving it to my only daughter...she "gets" it...she always makes sure no one else hangs it.

I'd keep my engagement ring, other than that I'd sell my soul to the devil I reckon for the right reason.
