There was just a magnitude 3.5 earthquake in Auburn, NE. (about 85mi from Omaha where I live)
It was at 9:04pm. I felt it, altho at the time I thought it was just a big truck going by outside. Nebraska isnt a place where you think we'd have an earthquake, but I know it's possible because we've had them before. (small ones) We even have a fault that runs thru eastern Nebraska. (the Humboldt fault) I remember being in one back in the early to mid 90s. Only reason I know that I felt it was because it knocked over a bunch of videotapes that I had stacked in my room at the time. I'm still not sure if what I felt wasnt just a truck driving by. (I'm in a residential neighborhood, not many huge trucks driving down our street at 9 at night) I'm waiting to see if it was really felt in Omaha.

That is very weird. Wonder if you're on the Madrid fault, or whatever they call that Midwest fault line...

When we were still living in the Southeast corner of Iowa we had a small quake. Tornados we can deal with but earthquakes??
We moved to Toledo, Ohio years later and there was a Quake there! Geesh; maybe we were causing them?? Now; we are in Northwest Arizona and so far we haven't had one or a tornado, flood, hurricane, blizzard or monsoon. H'mmm guess we'll stay here.

We had a tremor in Toledo back in 1988 or 1989. The epicenter I think was in SW Illinois near St. Louis. It rattled the china in the china cabinet. Otherwise, not really noticeable.
I chased Tornados growing up in SE Michigan. Never caught one - I blame the slow news guys on the radio. It was kinda fun driving around trying to catch them with our case of Stroh's and... I really don't like natural disasters, but I think the worst would be a catastrophic fire. It's amazing how much you can retrieve when a hurricane rips your house away and dumps 4 feet of ocean in your living room. We saved about 15% of our possessions (my wife claims 0%, but she's the one who lost 150 pairs of shoes). Ya can't do that in a fire. Tom |
