Default Valentine's Day coming up.

How long have you and your spouse been together, how did you meet, what was your first impression?

Met DH in voluntary service in Hutchinson, KS when I came down from Saskatoon, Canada to volunteer for a yr with a church agency. First impression, at the airport, was "Do all Kansans talk like that?"

We proceeded, after getting married, to do 3 more years of FT volunteering through similar agencies, in Lancaster Co, PA, and then, back in KS.

Am proud that our kids are following in our footsteps. DD20 volunteered last year in New Orleans and TX, rebuilding homes. DS18 has applied to volunteer in Raleigh, NC in fall, repairing computers for an agency that donates them to children.

DD has also met the man who will likely be her future spouse when she was volunteering.

My mom volunteered for a year in MS in 1959-60, teaching children. 3 generations of volunteers now. She'd be proud, too.

This year will be 23 years of marriage. i had a horrible first husband. (drunkard) and swore off relationships. I had been alone for 3 years when I got a job working in the prisons. I was a paramedic so getting off the streets was a huge bonus for me! My DH was the booking officer at the time. We had an instant friendship. He was sweet, kind, easy to talk to. Before I knew it, I asked him out on a date. He wasnt going to ask me, because I had made it clear that I was not interested in dates. A year later we were married. 23 years later we are both retired, and making each other laugh everyday.

We've been married for 17 years. 15 of them wonderful, 2 proved we have a strong marriage. We met in college and started out as friends. He helped me through a very difficult time and I knew then he was someone I could always depend on. Our first date was to his friend's wedding and since he was in the wedding party I sat with his mother and father *gulp* and ended up dancing with his father! Our second date was a week camping in the Thousand Islands with his entire family including aunts, uncles and cousins! Talk about being thrown to the wolves. At some point our friendship turned into love .

My DH (deceased now) and I were married for 46yrs. This April coming
it will be 4yrs. he passed away.

I still feel like it was yesterday when we first met. He was just getting
out of the Army, his brother introduced us. I at the time was involved with
someone else. I can remember those blue eyes, they seemed to pierce right
through me.

It took another 7 months before we really started to see each other.

Valentine Day was a special day for us. We never went out to eat. We
always just enjoyed the day together , and bought silly little gifts and a card
for each other. (times were a little rough ) Just those simple acts of love
and affection ment more then words can say.

Happy to say we had 2 beautiful children (a girl & a boy) who turned out
to be wonderful adults.

Today I went and bought a valentine cake from DQ and tomorrow I will
say Happy Valentines Day to "SAGE" (my GS Dog) my buddie, and let her have a piece (it is manily ice cream) it won't hurt her.

We usually never did much on Valentine's Day. Everything cost too much and we showed each other we cared throughout the year. To me, a card or roses means so much more when it's not "expected".

My DH and I met when we started orientation the same day at the hospital. I had just gotten over the flu and he was smitten by another person in the same group. This was 11/71. Since we worked at the same hospital, him in the pharmacy and me an RN we saw each other quite a lot. In 2/72 we were both in line at the cafe to pay our bills for lunch. He didn't have a ticket so I asked him he was doing. He said he was buying a package of Big Red chewing gum. I had a package in my purse on the unit so I told him to come upsatairs and I would give him a piece. We laugh about it now, the old line 'come on up and I'll give you a piece.' We had our first date that night, engaged the next month and married 9/2/72. Still together. Not always happy but determined to keep it together. I asked him one time how he felt about the burden of having a wife with MS was especially after I had to go on SSd. He said he married me for better or worse, in sickness and health. When our youngest daughter got married my brother who did the wedding said in his little sermon thing that preachers think they have to do a t weddings, that our immediate family have over 200 years of marriage. We just find a way to work it out. I just wish DH would see that it is kind of nice to give me a gift for ANY occasion.
