so we are in the midst of house renovations (thank goodness I found a program that makes it affordable for someone on limited income!)

One of the things we are doing is to make the upstairs guest bathroom w/c accessible for me. I have gotten over the "Oh I don't need all that as I am not that bad...." I finally reaized I was being vain and just plain foolish (that's growh right?)
I am ripping out the fiberglass tub/shower prefab unit and having a fullsized shower with bench installed, complete with a small curb and handrails, etc; tall toilet, new sink & vanity, bigger door, new flooring blah blah blah.

I have to choose shower doors or a curtain. I think I am going with a rounded shower rod and a curtain as me falling into glass doors scares the daylights out of DH and me I also can't bear the thought of cleaning shower doors (ugh) I am on the tallish side and hate wet floors so I need a curtai longer than the normal tub style curtain/liners.

1) Anyone know where I can get a good (not flimsy vinyl) shower curtain liner for it?

2) Any tub company/brands you like/hate? I want a full bench in the back (narrow) end and not one of those fold down seats or corner seat - which is all we can find. Can't afford tile so we are going to install a fiberglass or acrylic unit

Help please, I know someone will have the answers and opinions to help us out. Thanks in advance

Sounds great, Jane. You won't be sorry. I just had mine redone and just added a fancy smancy hand held shower arm, inside my tub. I have a chair. And I really love my new tall toilet. Mine is all tiled.

Jane, put your old shower curtain up in doorway. Even if by staple gun or tacks, you know, the door leading to the rest of the house.

It keeps the dust in one room. Shut all bathroom vents for heat or air. Otherwise every room has a mess in it and on everything. That's what we do when DH does a project I used to clean sheetrock off the furniture for weeks.

I buy my heavy duty liner, there are 3 grades, heavy duty, commercial, standard, at Wal Mart. I feel the weight of each one and know the heavy one will do. I then use a second curtain to look pretty, one that matches a window curtain, or I make them myself.

Have them hang the round rod low so that you have it in the shower lip on the floor in the shower. This way water stays in the shower. I also keep a set of rugs on the floor, so not to slip and one that I keep for a wet floor mat to use when I get out of the shower, then hang it up on hooks to dry.

I have a portable shower bench to use as needed, when in relapse, and feel so weak and wobbly. I have shower bars and the raised toilet seat is super. It is ADA approved with a height that enables you to get up without groaning.

When my legs get weak (relapse) it is harder to get up and down. When I use others now, I feel like I am sitting on the floor. Lol

I used clear chalking around the toilet bowl, sink and shower, so it never stains and washes up easily. I hope some of this may help you.
