yesterday was jacks first full day of no pain meds. About 11pm last night, he started circling, and spinning and was upset! he jumped in and out of his box, and squatted, and CRIED! I dragged the box into the bathroom, and dragged him in with me. He squatted everywhere crying! I grabbed the pain meds, and gave him a dose. After a min he stopped jumping all over the place squatting, and jumped in his box and pooped. I quickly removed it, so it would be a clean landing for pee. he peed some and jumped out,and peed some and jumped out. I thought he was done, so I opened the door to let him out. He jumped ON my bed and PEED right where I lay! ACK!

I grabbed him, put him back in the bathroom. I stripped my bed before it could soak thru, and shoved the linens in the laundry. Laid down towels, and then blankets, and then grabbeda sheet to wrap up in. Cleaned that whole bedroom area, and then got jack. The bathroom was covered in wet chunks of cat litter and a very upset puddy cat. By this time the meds had taken effect and from the looks of things he emptied his bladder. He was much calmer. I tucked him into his cabinet with a fresh furry blanket, and then cleaned the bathroom.

Called the vet this morn, who has decided to keep him on pain meds. At least once a day. He still has a stuttered stream of pee, which means he still has grit. They can produce more grit for 2 weeks to a month.

I was trying to let him go all day without meds, but at noon, he jumped in the box and started all over again. I grabbed him and gave him a dose of meds. After a min, he climbed back in his box and emptied his bladder. What a mess!

Im tired. Jack is tired. He got a refill on his meds. I asked for the advice of the vet to see if we should just give him that surgery and get it over with. I hate to do it, but he cant stay like this either. We are all running out of steam. At least he is peeing. If he blocks he makes the choice forus, but till then...im tired!

I had a friend who recently e-mailed me that she always admired how much I loved my cats and that if there was reincarnation, she would have loved to come back as one of them.

Many here reading this thread probably feel the same way about you.

I'm sorry poor Jack is still struggling. Like the vet said....it could take up to a month for all the crystals and grit to dissolve. Maybe he'll need to be on pain meds until that happens. Poor little guy.
Wish there was something I could do to help you. It's so tiring when a pet is sick. It's almost worse than when a husband is.

I hate to hear this, poor baby. Just give him the meds and be done with it until he is better. When you wean him off the meds and he is OK, awesome. If not, you'll have to make the decision on whether to do the surgery or not, or maybe as you stated, he'll make it for you. Bless you both.

I kept him zonked yesterday. it was about noon that he made such a huge mess in the bathroom, and was so upset about how painful it was, so I gave him meds, and he slept all day.

10 last night I have him a dose, even tho he didnt seem painful or distressed. I didnt want to wake at 3 and find a storm happening. its hard to get ahead of it when it starts. He slept on and off thru the night. didnt make any attempt to pee.

At noon it will be 24 hours with no attempt at pee. I am going to medicate him at 10 and hope he goes. If he is just holding it, that is one thing. I have to make sure he is comfy, medicated, and when he tries it wont hurt so much. If he is squatting in the box with no results and painful then he has to go to the hospital. The longer he holds it, the more likely he is to block.

I am starting to feel like I am being held hostage by a cat. We have been in this room for about a week now, and we take a step forward, and a step back. I just want him to be better! He was so animated and so much like the old jack as he came off the meds, till it hurt to pee, and then he reverted back to sick jack who is easily hurt, easily afraid, and worried you are going to do things to him.

Come on Jack...PEE!!!

I called the vet to see how long I should allow him to try to "hold it" before I have to internveine. He said he wants to see him at 3:30 if he hasnt gone on his own. He would prefer that I not try to express him at home if he has held it that long. He wants a chance to examine him before the weekend.

If he is just "holding it" because he is afraid to go, then I can help him by expressing some for him, but if he isnt going because his bladder is empty (maybe his kidneys quit) or he has a blockage, then ...its a whole new can of worms.

I just want my cat to heal! feel better! start going potty normally! sheesh! why is this so hard?!

I can only imagine how frustrated you are right now. I hope he goes and you just need to help him after he sees the doctor.
