So glad to hear that he did his thing where he needed to!!
The most difficult part of loving a pet is having to decide when it's time to end their suffering...my dog's hip is really bothering him...I have him on a special arthritis diet and tramadol 2x/day, and it is painful to watch him defecate...his legs shake, and he has trouble staying squat for any length of time. I was almost ready to put him down when we were up at the cabin last week...but he is in such good spirits in the morning. He still runs out to get the papers! But as the day wears on, he just sleeps, and occasionally moans. When he lays down, he plops. I know the time is coming...I just hate making that decision.
No more pets for me... I am too old for the maintenance and the heartache.

Jack made more of an effort to come out, and he was more social. Since he is proving he wants the box and not my blankets, I returned his fuzzy blankies. He is deeply asleep in the pile.

no pee since this AM, so we are still on a hope and a prayer that he will continue to use the box. Lets see what the AM brings. I cant believe he would hold it this long. The vet said as long as he isnt squatting and straining and painful that he will get more and more comfortable as things heal.

Im going to give him the nightly meds, and tuck in for some TV time.

5 am, he climbed into his box, and went pee. no double or triple trips, he did it all in one shot! I gave him pain meds at 8, but only half dose. He hasnt pooped in days and days, and needs to go poopie too. He seems better and was even interested in seeking the door yesterday. I think I will let him out for a while and see how well he does. Very slow progress, but progress non the less.

I need to clean the area. I think he was dribbling a bit last night, and licked himself for a long time. At least he is peeing. Once a day, but...I will take it.

My first stop is always this thread..........so relieved he went. Pain meds cause constipation in humans. I wonder if the same holds true for cats?

The vet said stress, pain meds, and lack of his old food can cause constipation. Also if his tummy hurts, he cant tell if its poopy hurt or bladder hurt, and may be afraid to go. I have decided that since he makes no effort to pee all day, I am going to try to remove daytime pain meds. I gave half dose today, and he is already on half what he was on in the hospital. I dont care if he gets night meds as that is when he tries to pee, clean...he really is a night owl. He loved me and loved me. He also chewed on his pee pee a while last night. When crystal blocked they can work on removing some of the gunk themselves. He was comfortable enough to clean it properly, so that made me happy.

The bathroom has been cleaned around him. He stayed on the shower seat that is sitting in the closet. I have a soft towel on it. I removed all towels, and mats from the floor, and wiped it all down with a light dose of home made lemon cleaner. non toxic for cats. Extremely light dose, but enough to disinfect. Everything is in the washer and will hang out to dry. He made no effort to leave his perch, and was happy to watch me clean. (just like a man) I left the door open, and hope he will wander out on his own.

I cant thank all of you enough for giving me a space to vent, pray, worry, stress and bounce ideas. It was also nice to have a ready hug. We are not out of the woods, but we are marching in that direction. big hugs for all

Such good news! I hope Jack can "feel the love" from all of us. I get more stressed out about my pets medical problems than my own!
