Has Jack made pee yet? I sure hope so! I know there's a way you can inject them with saline under the skin if you can't get them to drink just to prevent dehydration?

I understand about the diet issue and having two cats. We had that with our last two cats. For these two, I refuse to give either of them different foods because our situation was similar to what you're going through now except that we just gave into our former Tabby's demands for human food. Never again though. These cats aren't allowed so much as a taste.

took Jack all day and half the night to calm enough to come out. About 3am he started to coo and dance for me. no pee! he danced, loved me, swirled, and slept till 6, no pee. I gave him pain meds. 8am no pee! I called the vet who asked me to try to express him. I did try and he seemed painful. Off to the vet we go. She had to work hard at it, but finally got him to start a stream. then he went back into his carrier and peed in it! ick! so, he is holding his bladder, he doesn’t want to go, so he is going to hold it till he has to go. she said while his bladder was pretty full, it was still soft. She has no fear that he can last till noon tomorrow without damage, but he is continues...**** I don’t know. it was $119 to walk thru the damn door and have her squeeze my cat, then we got to ride home with a urine soaked cat. not fun! We think he is just so stressed that he doesn’t want to go. He has bad memories of the box. So, we changed the box. Maybe he will use a new one. bastard cat. im tired! Lily was singing at the door half the night very upset that it was closed.

I will talk to you later. I need a nap. Now its not just that he has a physical issue, he is going to be reacting emotionally and not wanting to go until he has no choice.

I washed him when we got home, and left him in the bathroom closet to finish the job. he isnt happy with that.

My cats get NO table food. NONE! the last two were beggers and it ticked me off. The DH thought it was cute. I thought it wasnt.

I don't know what you have but I found out that Rick hated the dome boxes. I bought one that is like a storage bin as soon as Rick came home. It came with a top but he refused with it on. We love it because he can go at any angle and not pee outside the box anymore. Do you think your kitty would like something like that?

Have you tried a heating pad set on "low" placed on his tummy. That might stimulate the "pee" reflex and relax him enough to make him go. I know a friend of mine did that to puppies he was caring for who had to be taken away from their mother too soon. He actually used a washcloth soaked in warm water but it was easier to control the puppies because they were so small. A cat might be harder to do this for.

I have a huge under bed storage bin that he loves as a litterbox. Just have to wait for him to realize that its not going to hurt anymore.

I tried the heating pad, but only stayed a few minutes and left. At this point he is still so worried about being grabbed, handled or dragged out to get something done. Having to go into the carrier today didnt help my case any.

He likes the new food. its a formulated diet to help break down stones, and grit. That is a blessing.

If he blocks just once more, they will turn his male opening into a female one. That will stop any grit from blocking it. It could also cause dribbling, or incontinence. its a very last resort.

I opened the door to the bedroom in an attempt to get some air in the room, and he zoomed back into the bathroom and hid in the closet. Poor thing. I am making a huge effort to just leave him alone. I will hold off on all meds till 7 tonight and do them both at once. Unless he shows being really painful I think thats best.

This is so stressful! I keep telling the neighbors that NO its not a good time to come visit. He is freaked out. we need quiet! sheesh!

They told us about that surgery too Dej and I was taken back by the whole thing. I honestly don't know if we would do it and our vet understands. This disease is so weird isn't it? Never had a cat that had it. I am used to Feline Fatty Liver and Kidney issues, not bladder disease.

Praying he goes and soon!

I must say I am at the point that I am not sure I would do the big surgery. On a cat who recovers well, or handles stress well, I can see it, but this cat has turned into a huge scardy cat. He is afraid when a peice of leaf blows outside. How much stress am I willing to put him thru, and us thru. Please dont misunderstand. I love love love this cat, but this isnt a good life. Back and forth to the vet constantly. Spending your life in a cage, or constantly being soaked in urine when you do decide to go pee, or being so afraid that you hide in a closet?? What favors am I doing this wonderful cat?

I am giving him a few days to turn this corner. He MUST pee IN the box! He cannot sit and hold his bladder till it runs down his leg. He is already on anti anxiety meds. He is being given top shelf care. Its going to have to be on him. This cat is miserable! he doesnt have any quality to his life right now.

Im stressed. he is stressed. DH is stressed. Vet is stressed. we are running out of ideas for this guy. I am hoping a huge block of sleep, quiet, private rest will help shake him out of this mess.

Thanks for all the advice. my heart breaks for him right now. He doesnt appear to be painful, but he is so full of anxiety. He went from being a lover boy to a mess.

I hope a few days of peace and quiet will help him. I know when I react to stress or get anxious my cats know and react as well.

I know how you feel Dej because we almost had to make decisions on Rick when he was sick and it broke our heart. He is so stressed away from home after that hospital stay, the vet's office tells me he wont eat, drink or allow any of them to come near him if we go out of town. If an animal can have PTSD mine has it.

I am not kidding you, when we picked him up they have gloves on up to their elbows! I asked them why and they told me he is vicious. My Rick, at home, is the kindest scardy cat alive and it just amazes me that he turns so mean at the vet. As soon as they handed him to me he tried to growl and I told him to stop it and he relaxed and curled up next to me. The vet was shocked and said WTH?

When we went out of town the same thing happened and it frustrates me because he's so good with us. They couldn't even give him his meds. I told them the next time we have to go out of town for an extended time I will come by and train them. If that doesn't work then I guess we never go out of town again.

But I agree with you that at some point we have to think of them and their quality of life. Because it really is no life to lead if they are miserable and nothing works. Taking chance after chance of a possible cure only makes it worse if there are no guarantees. The vet told us that some cats come out of this and never have another problem and then some have it all their lives.

Anyway, whatever the decision we support you 100%. Let's just all pray he will go and realize it doesn't hurt and all is OK.

Thank you for that. I needed to verbalize it, but feared being judged. I know that there are folks that advocate keeping your animal alive no matter what. If you knew Jack before, you would understand. He is a huge rub-a-holic. He is a lover boy, and I am willing to go far for a good outcome, or a chance at a good outcome. the thought I am left with is that I am putting him thru this misery and he will remain sick. You reach a point where you wonder if you are doing it for him or you. I am in such a tug of war. Stress is not my friend.

btw, I have read several articles now that say fish based diets, even the better brands contribute to this circle. He is on a great diet, but its always been fished. I will go get chicken/turkey and beef tomorrow. or get him the science diet CD stuff for a month first. They cant figure out what really causes this, or what ends it. (like MS) Some cats do well, and block once, and others end up a real mess. depressed, sullen, and scared for the rest of their lives.

I cant stop crying! I love this cat.
