Scared a bunch of you, didn't I?

Anybody watch those TLC shows about women who never knew they were pregnant......go into labor and deliver a baby either in their home or at the hospital emergency room?

I will never understand how on earth someone could not know they were pregnant. For the entire nine months nothing hinted to the fact that you had a full term baby growing inside you? I'm sure it happens but I just don't buy the story that nothing changed with their bodies the entire time.

You know, I've watched several episodes, at first with my skepticism loaded and ready to fire. With a few exceptions, I've been convinced.

Anything medical can have majorly atypical examples, and after watching the (mostly badly acted) episodes and hearing the comments by the medical professional, I can see how it could happen.

I know one woman personally (NOT on the show!) who was in labor when she got the news! She was middle-aged, had long ago given up trying to conceive (she and her husband had been trying for twenty-something years), and she was somewhat overweight.

She thought she was in menopause, then was afraid she had cancer or something, then moved up her doctor's appointment when the pain started. Ended up in the emergency room and...surprise!

Speaking as someone who had her period for the first 4 months of pregnancy... I can see how it could happen. Heck they kept telling me I wasn't pregnant but suffering from cysts on my uterus. I took another test the night before I was supposed to go meet with a surgeon to schedule having my uterus removed. Those 2 pink lines showed up awfully quick! LOL But yes, some of these shows are insane.

denial is a powerful weapon.

Oh, I hate to say this, but it happened to me. Only I miscarried in my 9th week.

I was 47 and having heavy periods every 3 weeks so the GYN put me on hormones. He said I wasn't ovulating any more, not that I did much before.

Sooo... we went without protection, and I had a small period on time (but I had one last pregnancy that way too... and it was to be expected from the Provera)...

Until I hemorrhaged at work, and then went in for a hystroscopy looking for endometrial cancer which was the big risk...and voila, it was a miscarriage! The only signs I had was feeling a little faint once or twice in a store, and crying alot during the winter olympics. So much so hubby mentioned, " haven't seen you cry like this at nothing since you were pregnant with DS"... HAHA we laughed never thinking I really WAS pregnant.

But I can't see how anyone could not know past the 5th month when the baby starts moving around alot.

My first pregnancy was easy, I had no morning sickness and until near the end the necessity of going to the bathroom every hour become a terrible burden for me! I was pretty upset about it all, feeling stupid and vulnerable. But in the end I was relieved...what would we do at that age with another baby!
I think the Provera caused the miscarriage.

I had ovarian cysts. my OB/GYN told me children were extremely unlikely. Since we wanted (nah, he DEMANDED) children, I dropped all forms of birth control. Led a very stressful life with this idiot. After a huge drunken blow out, and a violent night I left him. Six weeks later I found out I was pregnant. God does have a sense of humor. I was a few months along, and blamed stress, but when my breasts were sore, and my tummy expanded, and I was gassy, I knew what it must be, even in the face of MDs telling me it wouldnt happen in my world.

I had very light periods for my second pregnancy for several months. My DH was in a tech school for weeks at a time, so I was alone with DS #1, who was nearly 2.
I noticed my pants were very tight in the tummy, and then I stopped having periods...and I felt like my intestines were rumbliing a lot.
I found out in July that I was pregnant...my OB said I was due in February, based on when I stopped having periods.
At the beginning of December, I had my monthly exam. He said, "This is going to be one huge baby." The first one was 9-1...
On the 11th of December, I got the urge to wash down the walls of the baby's room. That night, I got what I thought was intestinal flu...cramps off and on.
By about 6 am, I thought, "Hmmm, this flu has regular intervals between cramping." I called the OB and he said get to the hospital.
DH had one more day of class out of town, so I called MIL, who raced out 20 miles to pick me up. By then I was 5 min. apart
She sped at 70 mph to get me to the hospital. DS kept saying, "Mommy has an oww-oww tummy." I had to hold it together so he didn't get upset, but man I was wondering what was going on...
My MIL dropped me off at the ER entrance, the nurse wheeled me into labor. I had two contractions while they undressed me...they said,"Wow, close together, huh?" When they examined me, I was crowning!
The OB had a preemie thingie ready for the baby, since it was 2 months before my due date.
Surprise-the baby, a boy, was 10 lbs 4.5 oz...the doc was the joke of the hospital for some time!!
I was young, and not so smart...by the 4th baby, I knew what was what

What capped the whole incident was my DH showing up at the hospital right from the airport. He had his suitcase in one hand, and his bowling bag in the other (he loves bowling, took it to the school so he could bowl after class). The nurse looked at him and said, "I'm sorry sir, but I don't think your wife is going to feel like bowling."

I knew right away with both of my pregnancies but I had minor complications with both

I have talked with one woman on line who has always had medical problems and was told long before that she could never have kids. When she got sick she thought it was the flu. When her stomach grew she thought she had some kind of stomach cancer. She went to the doctor and found out she was pregnant. She had the baby just a couple weeks later very premature.

I would have to say that since it hasn't happened to me I can't say one way or the other. But I would have to believe that anything can happen. I have several diseases and most people don't believe that it can happen the way I say but it does. It is horrible to have people not believe you when you know something happened one way.

I think it would be terrible to find out that way that you were pregnant. You would have no preparation for the baby.

There is no way that you don't know you're pregnant, if you have done the thing and missed periods, unless you are braindead.....even if you are denying it, you still know it.

I had MS for years and didn't know it!!

At 36 weeks I told the doctor I really felt lousy. She took my pressure and said get to the hospital (I knew I was pregnant but not about to birth) By 3:30 in the afternoon, twins were born. I had toxemia, now I know Toxemia not unusual with twins. Earlier in pregnancy a doctor part of practice who I seldom saw, measured my stuff for Spina Bifada and told me I was seriously elevated. I reminded him I was having twins and levels should be double the usual. Oh, he said. Good thing I knew or I would have freaked.
