Well I am back in my office waiting for my first class this morning. Monday's will be my long day. I also have a grad seminar this afternoon from 1:00 to 3:30. I have always looked forward to the beginning of each Fall semester. Today, I have mixed feelings. I am not unhappy that I am back to school, but neither am I excited about it. I just wanted to stay in bed instead of getting up at 6:30. This is my 25th year of full time college teaching. I also taught for three additional years part time while I was working on my doctorate. I used to be so passionate about politics. Now it just annoys me. I just hope I can get a more positive attitude in the next hour.

Already? In the olden days we started after Labor Day! I envy you, Barb, I would love to be back in academia. You'll do great.

Barb, you've been doing this 25 years!!! As an ex-teacher, I know it's hard to sustain the excitement at new beginnings you've done so many times before.

There's certainly a lot to discuss with all that's going on nowadays!!

Well, Barb, I hope your first day went well. I know you love teaching but are just as eager to get your retirement underway.

Here's to a quiet, peaceful, uneventful school year for you. I admire your determination.

The first day back went reasonably well. There lots of nervous 1st year students in my honors class. I tried to calm them down. I am reserving judgment on my grad class. There is one returning student with lots of attitude. She kept groaning and rolling her eyes. Then she said she did not know why she was taking this particular class because she had no interest in it. I told her that perhaps she should reconsider her schedule.

I just hope it cools down soon as the ac just does not work too well.
