Default Trail mix

I don't know if I have asked this here or not. But if you guys brains are like mine, you might not remember either! We are going to Disney World next month!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!! this has been our dream for a long time to take our grandchildren to WDW. So we are taking our girls, thier husbands and the grand kids and paying for it to! Yes, it's a one time trip. And no, I don't have room in my suitcase or car for any of you!

OK, back to my question. I need a good recipe for trail mix. We need a good snack in the car and something to sneak away in our bags at WDW as snacks so we aren't paying out the wazoo for snacks. We have the dining club which will pay for 2 snacks a day for each of us but since it's only the quick service dining card I'm sure the snacks won't be of much substance. My daughter, the mother of the grand kids is pretty strict about how much chocolate she lets her girls have and chocolate melts so M&Ms may be out. It can be added at times but not in the park.

Did I mention we are going to Disney World with our whole family!!!!!!! Yeah, I'm getting excited.

What a fun trip! Do you want sweet or salty?

My mom makes a trail mix with p'nuts, cashews, raisins, dried cherries, yogurt chips and chocolate chips. I love it although the chocolate and yogurt might not be great for the heat.

Things like carrot and celery sticks might be a better option for more healthy and less thirsty!

my mom used to make a nut bar with seasame seeds, walnuts and dried cherries. she would smoosh it all together into a bar, and wrap it up. instant energy and YUM! She tucked some in everyones pockets on travel day.

I have no idea what Trail Mix is, but I'm guessing you want small snacks to pack for your trip.

Here's a health bar recipe that's easy to make and should travel well.

INGREDIENTS

6oz (125g olive oil margarine
1/3 cup (75g) firmly packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey (or golden syrup if you'd like it less sweet)
1½ cups (135g) rolled oats
½ cup (75g) self-raising flour (cake flour)
½ cup (65g) dried cranberries, apricots, apples or other dried fruit
½ cup (70g) coarsely chopped, pitted dried dates
½ cup (80g) sultanas
¼ cup (50g) pumpkin seed kernels (pepitas)
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

METHOD

Preheat oven to 350F (180°C). Grease an 11 x 7inch (28cm x 18cm) (base measurement) slice pan and line the base and two long sides with one piece of baking paper.

Stir margarine, sugar and honey (or syrup) in a medium saucepan, over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the remaining ingredients.

Press the mixture into the pan and smooth the surface. Bake for about 35 minutes or until golden.

When cooked, leave in the pan to cool.
Cut into bars.

BTW...... did you say you were heading to Disney World?

Trail Mix is a mixed up batch of seeds, nuts, dried fruits, and some folks throw in a few peices of chocolate or carob to sweeten it up. its a fast energy snack that is usually cheap to make at home.

TONS of recipes on line, and many are so yummy!

Oh, Doyd, if you're flying, don't make anything at home!

Since this is a trip of a lifetime and you have plenty of excitement already, why not make it easier on yourself and stock up on Odwalla or Cliff bars and have them shipped to yourself directly at your hotel? These are high-nutrition and protein bars popular among hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, they come wrapped and ready to go. They're really good, very satisfying & quite packable.

Anne, we are driving. Would love to fly but can't because of cost. It sure would make it easier but the trip is costing us enough with hotel and WDW tickets and meals.
