Ok - my last post might be mis-leading. What I have in room 3M10T is alot of astronaut biological samples in -80c freezers from the last 45 years. Blood, urine, feces, etc.

Is there life somewhere else? My computer won't type a sideways 8 but the universe is arguably infinite, hence life is infinite. The laws of physics keeps everyone honest - we can't mess with each other. That little concept of 3x10^8 m/s keeps us within our own little sphere of existence.

Are we alone? Unlikely. Has this planet been visited by aliens? Well, this planet still has its energy resources (oil, coal, fissionable nuclear isotopes, water (read hydrogen), etc). So I doubt it. If we get visited, we're gonna get robbed. Think about it - what would the human race do if we visited an energy rich planet?

Gliese 581g does look somewhat promising, but life could be an ameoba or a transformer type creature.

Oh! By the way, transformers 3 (the movie) is filming at Johnson Space Center this week. It's an Apollo era photo shoot - they're hogging the Apollo control room and the huge vacuum chamber in building 32. They need 130 extras - but no way in hades am I gonna cut my hair to look like I belong in 1969...

Thanks Tom. Now I am more un-convinced than ever. I wasn't booking my trip there just yet once you posted that but it has me more intrigued than before.

Default excited about science

Hi, and I am of course interested in what you are doing in science. I read all I can, even if I dont' get it all. I never did this earlier in life, but now at my age, I think it is facinating. There is so much yet to know. Right now, I am finally getting spacetime. Also there is much about other dementions (4th) that I am reading about. I still think hawkings is difficult to read and understand. ginnie

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_581_g

just an off hand guess, any life form that may exist there, if any, we would consider very alien.

The thought would be you evolve to take advantage of your environment?

Default science

Helllo Mrs. D I watched the show on discovery. I get confused with all the theories as you do. I find if I read about it after a program like on Discovery, it helps me to get it. Mr. Hawkings has a new book out, that I am reading now. It has been better than his previous books, for the lay people to understand.

It is impossible statistically for earth to be the only planet with life.

The general problem with public perception regarding other life forms is that our perception is based on our own experiences on this blue marble, which is just a speck of dust cosmically.

The general problem with our eco-centric view of the universe is that any alteration in out collective beliefs that we are "special" flies in the face of religious dogma. After all, it was not that long ago that people were imprisoned when they concluded mathemtically that our solar system is not eco-centric but rather helio-centric.

We shall see...

I voted yes and here's why...
I saw something and I was with others who saw it too.

None of us will ever forget what we saw and we all talk about it when we get together even after 35-36 years. We still wonder what the heck it was and still toss around theories and there's not one of us who goes outside without looking up at the sky on a clear night and standing there and scanning and looking to see if it's back again...even after all these years. It had an impact on every one of us that lasts to this day.

It may not be life as we know it or as we expect life to appear but something's out there and it ain't us and it's waaaay more advanced than we are.
