Default Another (alleged) celeb. "dying" from M.S.

SO, a friend of mine who has MS had her mother call her the other day freaking out because she read in Ladies Home Journal that Meredith Vieira's husband- Richard Cohen, is dying of M.S. She (my friend) said her mother told her he is totally blind now and has little time left to live, that's why she hasn't been on "the today show" in about 1 1/2 weeks.

I have not been able to find the story, nor do I know if it is recent or old. It just frustrates me that these idiot reporters make it sound like we all have a death sentence.

I especially feel bad that my friend had to calm her mother down as her mother also has poor health and worries about her in the first place.

Has anyone else heard about this story?

I didn't hear about this one Earl, but I understand your frustration.

I get really peeved when some-one tells me their uncle/aunt/friend of a friend's sister's hairstylist's fiance...died from MS. They always know some-one! Grrrr!

We finally start to get people understanding that MS is a chronic disabling disease, but we still have to fight all those ingrained ideas that some people have stuck in their heads. Snake oil cures it, aspartame causes it..... etc.

The latest buzz is she is taking time off to be with him after his recent bout with colon cancer.

http://www.limelife.com/blog-entry/M...how/76389.html

No where have I found mention that he is dying or near death nor do I find anything about MS other than he has it.

Lets see how this plays out.

"Cohen, who also battled colon cancer twice"
http://www.stylelist.com/2010/10/13/...ovember-2010/5

So it sounds like he has MS & has had cancer, but nothing specific.

directly from the lhj online mag

"As a couple they have been public about Cohen's health, jointly giving an interview to Barbara Walters to publicize his 2004 memoir about living with illness, Blindsided. MS has affected his balance and left him legally blind. The downside of their honesty is that many people have the impression that Cohen is dying or an invalid in need of constant care, both of which are untrue. (His father, who also had MS, lived until age 90.)"

The media has is right, the friend-not so much

This stuff drives me nuts if I pay too much attention to it. They do the same with Annette Funicello. Every couple of years they drag out a picture of her in a chair or on a gurney and say she's living her last days. Arrrrgh!

Yes, at first I thought she just wanted the disease d'jour, when she said shes's had it for 17 yrs with no outward signs. But then I remember that I was in total remission, for 17yrs and noone knew it, except close family. And they had their doubts.

The thing is that even though it didn't show and I didn't have the bad visual symptoms, I still knew and felt like I had it.

My Dad had MS for over forty years, and really never had any "visible" signs. In fact, those were times when one didn't want an employer, or potential employer, even to hear those words. So we called it his "problem".

He only needed to use a cane the last few months of his life, and it wasn't because of the MS. (He didn't die of MS, by the way, but of emphysema).
