it was 1941. A long time ago now. I wasn't born yet. But I always remember it. A scary time.

I was a baby....my Parents must have been very afraid. My Father had had Polio as a child and the armed forces wouldn't take him.

My uncle was on a ship in Pearl Harbor. It was sank but he lived. He was re-assigned to another ship. During a battle in the Pacific, it was sunk. He hung on the side of a full life raft and watched others in the water get eaten by sharks. Eventually they came to an Island, full of cannibals he says, but they weren't eaten. The Australian Navy eventually rescued them. His sister (my favorite aunt) said the hot sun beating down on him in the water made him so mean.

My father had a slight heart murmur and they wouldn't take him. But he did go and help build the Alcan Highway as they called it way back then. He lived to be 93 1/2 with no health problems at all.
