The Explosion at the Nuclear Plant was actually a good thing, at least short term. It was Not a Nuclear explosion. Caused by the big increase in the temperature and pressures in the outer building, blew the wall off. The surrounding radiation is actually lower after the explosion. They say they are doing very controlled releases to relieve pressure. The problem is that they lost electrical power that runs the cooling. No chance of a Chernobyl like explosion since their plants are light water/low pressure reactors, Chernobyl was heavy water/high pressure with no containment building.

We shall see!

one of the old men that I have as a computer client has a son that lives 50 miles from that plant. He evacuated the same day as the quake and was quick to get his family far away, but he said they lost everything. His home is still standing, but no one expects an 8.9 so his foundation is cracked and they are on the run.

Scary scary times indeed.

There was one death in Crescent City, Calif. One of the people swept out to sea did not make it back. I also live on the Oregon coast. Now Jim Berkland, who predicts earthquakes, is predicting "the big one" off our coast that would produce a tsunami here.

I don't really know whether to believe this or not, but I will be prepared one way or another. We always have an emergency bag packed and ready to go in our van.

This is such a tragedy and I pray for everyone affected by the earthquake and tsunamis.
